My oldest sister sent me a text this morning. I haven't spoken to her in months. She told me that she & my other sister "KNOW" that I need to read the book The Harbinger. She says she claims to know that God wants me to read it to. I have read excerpts from the book, it is about where our country is headed because we have turned away from God as a society. My question is: how can she & my other sister, whom I never talk to either, KNOW that God wants me to read this book. I texted back & told her "I know our country is in trouble, & I read the Bible, I don't need to read that book". She has always treated me like Im perpetually 15 years old. She has never given me credit for having grown up & that I DO know a thing or two about life. She has NO clue what Ive been through in the last year & how much I've tried to grow my faith & grow closer to God & Jesus. She has never approved of how I handle my ES, she tells me it's my own fault we are estranged because I didn't do this or that while my boys were growing up. Sorry, it just upset me, as the text had a very condescending tone to it.

I am sorry your sisters sent the text to you in that way. The book they are referring to,however,The Harbinger, is excellent. It is an eye opener on where we stand as a Country. It warns us what could happen if we do not repent and seek God. It is written in story form but factual. It is quite fascinating and has been on the NY Times Best Seller list since being written. The Pastor (messianic) has had many opportunities to share the truth since it came out on TV and in Washington DC.

We sure do live in troubled times!

Thanks lindajoan, I know we are in trouble as a country. I know where we're headed. But, I have enough trouble not being depressed every day, & reading a book like that would only make it worse. I have no doubt it is a good book. I told my sister that I have been reading the bible & that is good enough for me. It was the way she said it that bothers me. Unless you live under a rock, you know what shape our country is in. It is scary & I pray all the time for Jesus to please bless the world. I feel unless or until our leaders return to God & the basic ideals our country was founded on, we are lost. I know God wants me to do something more with my life. I am waiting for Him to reveal His purpose for me, He is just waiting for me to be ready, which sadly, I fear I am not. I am working on it, every day. Our EC don't make it easy for us to move on, do they?. I am learning that God needs to be the focus of my life, not worrying about my ES.

I am in agreement with you. I have been dwelling on that truth,also. Jesus does want to be first. He deserves to be our priority. Without Him, we have nothing. Nothing or No one can compare.

I think that you are reading the best book of all - The Bible! There are enough warnings in their about our world today. I am sorry that your sister is at odds with you.
I have a younger sister, who I have been estranged from since our mother died 4 years ago.

Good for you for not giving in to her condescension.

Oh my goodness, this struck a nerve with me. I am the youngest of six kids and they still think of me as a child, too. This sounds like something they would do. It would be very upsetting for them to tell me they KNOW God wants me to do this, or read that. And I so agree, you would have to be a total moron to not know what is going on in the world, acting as if you are stupid with your head stuck in the sand or something. I think it is just the superiority of it all....like THEY are in better standing with the Lord than you are, so they somehow got this "private telegram" from Him? Oh this makes my blood boil. I am so very sorry. You can vent all you want to, my dear!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement. Poodlegirl, I am the youngest of 5 children, My mom left us when I was 10 (actually, mentally, she left long before that), & so my oldest sister by 8 years took over mothering duty. She was FANTASTIC & I don't know what I have done without her. It's her lingering belief that I am perpetually 15 years old, & that I still need her direction & what she calls "constructive criticism, which nothing but condescention. I am close to 50 years old for crying out loud. I am tired of being treated like Im stupid & have no clue. BIG SIGH!!!

Yep, our family has 3 boys and 3 girls, but the two girls are the oldest, followed by three boys, and I am the baby girl. My two sisters were 15 and 14 when I was born, so OF COURSE they still think I am a baby. But more like 6 years old, instead of 15, like in your case. And like yours, I am sure they mean well, but GAHHHH! And I am 53! But I feel your pain.

everyone outside of this estrangement can have their opinion as to what we did or didn't do wrong, but now that I am going through it, I know that no one is immune from this happening to them.

those that judge us will and are facing their own battles. God knows that they couldn't handle what we are going through.

btw, my husband loved that book, too. I didn't want to read it, either. I know we're in trouble, but I feel like it would put my focus on my fears instead of Christ. The book Epicenter had me scared for the longest time. lol.

Off Topic: In defense of The Harbinger, it is a book based on truth of Isaiah 9:10. The pastor author chose to write it in story form for writing purposes. It puts our hope in God and knowing Jesus as our only answer for us personally and for our Country. It is written out of leading others to the one true Hope and does not cause fear.

Knowing the author,I am not promoting the book but just wanted to share the above. God bless each one as we read the Word,first,and only the books that God leads us to personally read.

The Harbinger is a great read, but when people tell us that they are "speaking for God",as regards doing some thing like this, unless we hear the same message from 2 or three other unconnected/unrelated people we not need heed it. God will find a way to get our attention if He wants us to read a particular book.

lindajoan, I have nothing against the Harbinger book. I just didn't care for the way my sister handled it. I agree with katesmom, I am focusing on God right now & don't need any more fear put into my heart. If God wanted me to read the book, he would let me know. I read the book of Isaiah the same day my sister sent me that text. I get the gist of what our country is in for. Also, like I said, unless you live under a rock, you know our country is going down the toilet.

I agree with you,Gordos. You should not listen to anyone (including your sisters) about what to do. The only one we need direction from is the Lord. There is no better book than the Bible.

Barbell, I too, pray for discernment, mostly regarding recognizing false prophets. I have always wondered what Jehovah's witnesses believe. I know I do not care for them coming to my door. I tell them "I am Catholic" & that seems to turn them off pretty quickly. My sisters don't go to church at all, are very judgmental, & my one sister made a living out of extorting her ex husband. She made over 100 thousand dollars blackmailing him. Now she wants to tell ME to read a book? lol SMH
