He called I was shocked. Answer to prayer! But sadness too. His wife is filing for divorce, just after the birth of their twins! I'm so sad. He is devistated! I just listened. My heart goes out to him. Then I worry about being used Will he want money?. We are too far away for him to want to live here. I told him I would ask the prayer warriors I know to pray for them all. So I'm in uncharted waters ... Advice?

I am glad to hear he knew he could call on you. Always show love when he reaches out and offer prayer and emotional support not things. He is going through deep trials. I believe reaching bottom is what it will take for our ED to look up,also. God bless you as you seek God's direction.

While hearing of a young couple divorcing is always sad, your son calling you is sort of like us calling on our Father for strength, love, someone who we know loves us unconditionally. That is how it sounds your ES feels about you. You were good to listen and offer up prayer. It is sad you aren't closer, but with today's technology, hopefully he will call, text, email, whatever to keep communication going. Sending prayers

grandma, While I am happy that your son reached out to you, I would be worried too. I think that is normal to feel that way. Will they want money? Will they want to move back home? Will they test us again almost beyond our limits? Will they return to bad behavior if we don't relent & give into them? I sometimes imagine my ES calling me, and how uncomfortable that would be. At this point, I think it would be a miracle if he DID call and not want something. I am spent, emotionally & financially. May God give you the strength & guidance you need.

I am so glad your son called you...what a blessing! I hate to say this, so please don't be offended, but please be very, very careful. My son did this as well (although not right after a birth) but he told me they were getting a divorce, came to see me, acted all sweet, but did ask for money. Like a fool I gave it to him, never dreaming he was setting me up. Well he took the money, never divorced, and now despises more than ever. I pray this is not the case for you, but please just be careful.

I am SO SORRY poodlegirl61. At least you can walk with your head high because you did the loving thing of helping him out, as God would want us to do. Going forward, I guess I would try to be patient and pray asking God to touch his heart showing him his sin and asking that God turn his heart around.

My estrangement started because my son wanted us to give them $10,000 for their wedding so her parents wouldn't have to pay so much, yet they didn't want to spend any time with us. We did not give the money and consequently were estranged for over 7 years. When ES called me, we talked about that and he acknowledged they were immature and did that but then said he didn't want to talk about it anymore and didn't want to go back but wanted to go forward. That is the only time in his 31 years of life that he has ever asked us for money and I think it was prompted by my DIL.

You are in my prayers. God loves you and will lead you.
