I want to apologize

I hope you all can forgive me for venting about my youngest son, who is not an ES. I get more support from this group than the other group for addicts. I cant talk to my family about this, because they are judgmental.

There is no need to apologize gordos. We all need to vent, and this is a safe place to do it. That's what we're here for. Keep us posted.

My opinion doesn't hold much weight because I'm so new here, but I will give it anyway. lol

As the mother of a son who had a chronic alcohol addiction, I would say that in many ways they ARE estranged....maybe not physically, but in almost every other way. The pain and grief are still there and they seem so unreachable.

Also, my daughter is not totally estranged from me physically either ….so, in that sense, I suppose I shouldn't even be posting. She is the one that prompted me to seek out this group.

It seems to me there are different levels and degrees of estrangement. Who can define it?

Gordos, I consider us all ftiends. We are here for you. You Too Tabitha. We are here to support and pray for each other. We are at all levels of estrangement and have also gone through many other trials with our other children. As shared before, my 3rd son (never estranged) has gone through an addiction.

We are here for you with the love of God.

I agree, no need to apologize gordos! I can totally relate to what you're going through. It was close to what we were going through a year ago. I appreciate your honesty and having others who relate to me and vice versa. Thank you and God bless.

Gordos, alcoholics/addicts are responsible for their own sobriety-recovery. We cannot make them change. Al-Anon may be a good group to join to get help for yourself. Prayers and hugs.

I agree with what everyone else said. I don't believe we need to join all sorts of groups when this one meets our needs. I often post about my relationship with my sisters because it is connected with my estrangement. I don't feel I should have to join a different group to discuss that, nor should you have to in order to discuss your situation with your youngest son. We all hare here to support one another. The one thing we have in common is estrangement from one or more of our children, and so sometimes we can relate better to other situations as well, since our estrangements do effect are responses in other areas of our lives.
