Just reflecting on how I used to be with my EC:
- I used to own your anger, when you chose to rage at me, I cringed in fear and tried to calm you down or let your anger awaken my anger
- I used to own your bitterness, when you chose to be bitter towards me, I became bitter by letting your sourness make me sour
- I used to own your coldness, when you chose to be cold and indifferent towards me, my heart grew cold and empty as I let the chill of your coldness freeze my loving heart
- I used to own your attitude, when you chose a bad attitude towards me, I reacted by adjusting my attitude and became someone I really wasn't
-I used to own your silence, when you chose not to speak to me, I lost my voice and became silent too and when I dared speak to you, I could only whisper out of fear of whether or not you would respond
-I used to own your cruelty, when you chose to be cruel to the one who raised you and birthed you, I felt cruelty creeping engulf my thoughts
-I used to own your mistakes, when you chose to blame me for your own actions and mistakes, I accepted the blame for your mistakes and tried desperately to make amends
-I used to own your drug and alcohol use, when you chose to use drugs and alcohol, I beat myself up for having created your chemical use by blaming myself for how I raised you
-I used to own your entitlement, when you chose to be entitled, I felt that I owed you everything and more
-I used to own your estangement, when you chose to estrange yourself from me, I felt that I deserved it, I felt that I had to chase you, beg you and try to win you back and I found myself becoming estranged from everything in life
Today, I own only my actions and choices. Today, I choose freedom from owning your choices.
