CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
I am new here as of today............my story
BarbiD
My experience is that it was my firstborn who was the one who was wild and in trouble alot and who got angry with me for just being a mother at times. He is in his mid thirties now and we have a good relationship. Then nearly a year ago, my daughter and her bf were living with us and her few month old, i LOVED having my little grandchild here, he was such a delight. I had told my daugher ALB that I felt like the most blessed woman alive having both she and the baby here. Then I got seriously ill, with a heart attack and congestive heart failure. Only a few days after I got out of the hospital, still barely able to walk across a room; she told me there were moving to bf's parents' in less than a week. I was shocked..... I asked questions of course, but the answers I got were so far fetched....I could tell it was excuses. I didn't say anything else really. Then two days laters her bf ALL OF A SUDDEN copped an attitude and said they were leaving right that minute. He even called the cops saying "he feared for his life". When they left, she told me after she got all her belongings I was "no longer her mother". We had a couple confrontations about the times they got their belongings, but they got them all. Whatever she left here she told me to do whatever I wanted with it. So far it's still down in our basement. She blocked us on facebook, so I blocked her also but my reason was because she took offense at almost everything I wrote. Most of the time it was not anything that possibly be offensive in any way. I had the support of all my loved ones through this. During one phone call preceding a trip to get the rest of their belongings, she told me she hated me with every fiber of her being. That was the last we heard from her and she was pregnant when she moved out and has since had another baby, (13 months apart are her two) which we have never seen. A famly friend from another state was copying pics of her newborn from FB and sending the to both myself and my brother and my daughter blocked her too on FB. Wow, huh? This is such a shock for me, as the gifts and words she spoke and wrote for the past 5 years were "my mom is more than my mother, she is my best friend." Now, nothing. What do I think about this? It is true my husband and I don't like her bf at all, but we never treated him with anything but respect and love while he lived here. He made al sorts of false accusations the day he called the cops, and I told the cops the truths: he didn't work, didn't help wtih the baby, was very critical always, didn't take care of his dog, quit every job he ever got, couldn't get along with people, was antisocial, and now with the move to his parents was alienating my daughter from her friends, family, and life in particular. I was honest, because he would not suppport his family we were buying diapers and dog food.
I had to go into counseling because this was so devastating to me. The timing was bad, being so soon after I had my heart attack and diagnosis of CHF another life long health condition to add to my list of disabling things........ This came as they moved in only a month after my husband nearly died from Legionnaires' Disease and spent a month in the hospital fighting for life. Too much all at once I suppose for me to take.
It's nearly a year now, and my heart still breaks. I had sent her baby clothes for the newborn, and a gift card for the one year old on his birthday. Nothing. I tried emailing, texting, calling (she has since blocked my number from calling her). What do I do? Do I still bang my head against the wall by trying to contact her? Or do I let it alone and see how it comes out......... I told her at one point i was sorry I hurt her. But she was not receptive. And truthfully, I don't feel I did anything to apologize for.
One year priior to all of this, we had words because she had lied to me about having a brain tumor. My husband and I dished out ALOT of money to be sure she had good insurance coverage to treat it. Turns out there wasn't one, and of course the mother in me confronted her. She still has yet to deny or confirm it to us........
I am at a loss here......... Help?
I had forgotten that she during a phone call after the move out, she told me on the phone that she "hated me with every fiber of her being. She left alot of photos here and childhood things such as stuffed animals, and a huge tote full of Barbies and accessories........ But she DID take the dollhouse her biological father built for her when she was 2 years old......... and a doll cradle he built when she was 2 or 3. He hasn't been much in the picture since her early childhood. But I know she now has contact with him and has taken both grandchildren to see him. I am going to post my latest email to her, only a few months after my last attempts to contact her during which time she has NOT responded. She blocked us on FB, and went so far as to block my phone number from reaching her phone number. Prior to that I had made calls and sent texts of apology and love for her and when she was ready I was here to talk with her.

I have an ES and that is an entirely different scenario. Sons are controlled by their wives or gfs. I tried the apologies for not giving them everything they demanded, I sent gifts, cards, emails -- all to no avail. All the time turning to prayer. Now I just pray - every day.
You are in my prayers. So glad you found us.
Try not to look at this estrangement as a lifetime. Take one day at a time using the Serenity Prayer as a tool to figure out when to Go and when to Stop, praying for Wisdom to act according to His will for everyone. Thing may very well change in the future and possibly the near future. I have no idea how things will end with this in my lifetime, but I have faith that my son can't walk away from his parents forever and be comfortable with it - God has his hold on him/them.
In the meanwhile, I would back off; learn some new communication skills and how to deal with difficult people.
You've been through so much..so sorry. God has kept you from complete despair and kept you from complete loss..He is still with you and understands your pain.
Glad you found us. Sounds like your estranged daughter has been unreasonable..but most estrangements don't make any sense. Hope you find comfort here.
Do you think this is God's way of keeping you in physical health, since having your daughter, b/f and little ones living in your home, that it would be too much for you??? Sometimes what we think is a bad situation is actually what is best for us.
I know it hurts a lot to not be in relationship with our adult children, (especially the grandbabies) but sometimes we need to give them freedom to leave...this has taken me almost two years to accept. I am still grieving not being in my baby grandson's life..and he is growing up not knowing us, his loving grandparents and a wonderful auntie (our daughter) and uncle (our youngest son).
You aren't alone.
(((hugs)))

You have to LIVE for life and for God, and if you don't deal and cope with this, perhaps even meds, it could kill you, or worsen your health issues, I see it a lot on here. Detach....let go and let God. And stay busy, make a list and do things you always wanted to...be a mom to your other kids, focus on your healthy relationships.
Don't let this relationship direct your will to live, your self esteem, you need to believe in YOU, and God loves you. No matter how messed up things got, time will heal, I PROMISE....but she needs to be let go...bc that's when things might turn around, for your sanity, I read a book ...a woman 9 years, and hope it doesn't take more than 2 but it is what is...focus your heart and mind on growing in the Lord so when she comes back you will be filled with Gods love. He NEVER disappoints, and has purpose in allowing this...
You have friends here who understand.
You are not to blame; there is no rhyme or reason to any of this. They are on ego trips and power trips, withholding the things that hurt people the most. I sometimes think they get intense pleasure from this because some of them are narcissists.. One day her world with this loser will crumble and she will have nowhere to go. She is too proud to ever apologize or make amends; none of that for her. She listened to someone who hates us and believed her lies -- mainly because she was looking for an excuse to do this anyway. As I have said all along, the loss is hers, only losing the GC was hard. And what she is doing to them re us is abuse (PAS) too.
We wait till they crumble. It could take months or years, but their unstable state tells us that they cannot last long in this dog eat dog world. Only then might they reconsider. In the meantime, we pray. Take care of yourself and your husband and many consolations....
Only God can change their hearts and I agree that in our ED's life that she will have to reach a bottom to listen to God. Like the prodigal son it will be in God's time and in His way. We pray.
God bless all of us good parents who have gone through the suffering of estrangement. Our EC really are missing so much.
Finding this group helped me a lot. Every night I pray for Gods will. He has a plan, I just don't see it yet. She is still in daily contact with this man but I get to see her every week, he doesn't.
Stay in faith.
For us, it will be 8 years in July. I no longer believe that she will ever see what her actions have done to us without God's divine intervention. I know God changes peoples hearts but I also believe that she has to be willing to let go of this thing she has created. I too look forward to that day, but I do know that it will be in His timing.
She has now estranged them from her step mom and dad, so now they have no family in their lives. How sad is that?
