CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...
One time, after I visited my youngest ED's home, I noticed that the bathroom for her little ones had no decor at all. Just white walls old scatter rugs and tattered towels. I made a mental note of it, so for Christmas, I bought, what I thought, was an adorable whole bathroom ensemble to cheer up the grandchildren's bathroom. I bought all the accessories, shower curtain, rugs, towels, toothbrush holder - the works. Packed it all up and sent it to be opened Christmas Day. You know what my daughter did? She called me outraged that I would take it upon myself to pick out decor for her house - the ensemble was in a cute fish theme (this was when Finding Memo was popular) and she told me she hated fish and would never buy that for her house. To say the least, I was appalled at her ungrateful reaction. I tried to reason with her by telling her it wasn't really to decorate her the main rooms of her house, but just for the kids bathroom that had no decor at all - I thought it would make them happy. Well, she just went on and on about how dare I pick out decor for her home.
Another time, I spent a whole day trying to find a really nice leather handbag to buy this same daughter for Christmas. I tried to find something her style but also classic. I spent about $100.00 on it, as that was my very top budget of what I could spend on a gift for her. The next day, she called and told me "thanks for the purse", but the father of her son (who was a king-pin drug dealer who always had wads of cash in his pocket), bought her a "Coach" bag (worth at least $400.00) and that she would be using that bag instead. My heart was crushed that the money from drug dealing to buy a bag that she had already picked out and all this drug dealer had to do was go and pick it up and bring it to her) was worth more in her eyes that the one her mother spent a lot of time and thought on at the budget I could afford.
When I remember these incidences with her especially, it makes me wonder what the heck did I do wrong for her to turn out this way.
I do understand your pain,
Mountain Girl
annabelle, I'm sorry that you're experiencing this. It feels so confusing when our EC bounce in and out of our lives at their whim. Your DIL sounds cruel and immature. I will lift prayers to God's throne for you.
