CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...

I got a letter from ED yesterday apologizing for taking off. After crying tears of joy I started reading it over and over and have more questions. First she listed her return address as mine. The postmark is around my area instead of up north where she's been living. My husband tried calling the post office and they won't verify if the last address we have for her is current. She said she's been scared to contact us because she thought we hated her and would make her talk to her sister. This after countless attempts to contact her and send a message that we still love her. If she's sorry then why is she still making it difficult for us to contact her? I'm praying this isn't a game or at least when she wrote the letter she wrote how she feels, but when doing the envelope she's having 2nd thoughts of what would happen if we really connected. I still think she's concerned about what her now husband would say if he knew she wrote that letter.
She also wrote she never left because she was mad at us, but just her sister. That isn't what she said in the note she left when she left.

If there is a way to contact her, you just need to let her know that your love for her is unconditional love and you would welcome a chance to visit face-to-face, maybe at a restaurant or a walk in the park.

Dear Feelinghelpless, I would look at this as a first step. She may not need or want a reply. She may only wanted to state the apology. Patience is my recommendation. Give her some time to correspond again without rushing her. Try not to second guess her motives and actions. Be accepting of this small step. Of course I may be in error. To me this is great news. Blessings.

Feeling, this sounds very good. PTL that she reached out. It is difficult for you to reach out when you don't have an address. She may be concerned about her husband. God will either reveal to you where she is or she will connect again. Waiting on The Lord seems best.

My husband just googled out the apartment she used to live at and the manager said she moved out last March. I was going to write a letter and forward it, but after your responses I may slow down and think about it. I don't know if she got her wedding card/letter/ check yet since I'm not sure if it got forwarded or how long it takes. Maybe that last letter was an attempt to tell me she was married. She had her married name in the return address.

It is difficult to know what drives any form of contact our EC give. I know our ED lives in our area but for the first time on almost 3 years do not know where. It is hard not knowing but God knows best.

My oldest ED is moving soon, but hasn't posted where yet on FB. I'm sure if I didn't get a thank you for the wedding gift, I probably won't be informed of a new address.

To me this seems like a first step. The fact she contacted you is a positive. Since EC seem to like to have the power, just wait and see what happens next. God will embrace you and hold you while you wait

It's hard to trust them after they've treated us so poorly, I know the feeling. You get your hopes up, just to have them crushed. Trust is a very fragile thing.
