Wow - what a scenario. I assume she contacted him and her insecurity issues may stem from a skewered identity - not knowing her biological father all these years. I also assume your husband knew about her. So what she wants the most is to know that she is loved and accepted by her earthly father. I would think a handwritten letter from your husband would mean the most. Something like --- "Dear Daughter ~ It is with great pleasure and pride I anticipate meeting you for the first time. All these years, you have always been in the back of my mind and I have prayed for you. I have always hoped you would carry within you the best of both your biological parents. I am sorry that I haven't been a part of your life, but I am blessed that you want me to be a part of your current life. Thank you so much for including my wife and I in the lives of your children as well. I look forward to filling in the blanks and questions you must have and pressing forward. I also hope that your faith in a heavenly father has been a comfort to you. Love, your earthly father ~ (name)"

Hi Blue, I think jewelry would be absolutely lovely! Just trying to put myself in her shoes... it might also be nice to have something that tied me in to the part of the family I'd never known, i.e, family recipes, a photo book, favorite scriptures from family members, etc... Please let us know what you decide and how it goes! ;-)

A nice watch engraved from him to her came to mind. I would also bring a gift for the child (book or toy) and also something for the husband (something he enjoys as a hobby or a team t shirt or sweater). He could,also, possibly bring something from you for their home (vase, pretty dish/bowl,ect).

Thanks so much for the great ideas! We spent the better part of the day today shopping and ended up getting his daughter a very nice Seiko watch. We loved the engraving idea but we think it might be wise to see if it fits her first. We also got her little girl a doll, a sundress, a water bottle, a mini personal fan and put it all in a cute Finding Dory backpack. I trust that the Lord is behind all of this and will be going before my husband as he build a new foundation.

Just wanted to give an update on this...
The Lord blessed my husband's trip with a safe flight to and from home and also blessed his time with his daughter. We got the watch engraved and she loved it and wore it the whole time. She didn't have a watch so that made it that much sweeter :-) They got to talk a lot and get to know each other and I'm so happy it went well and we jumped the first hurdle on this journey. Thank you so much for all your ideas, I'm so thankful for this group of wonderful people!!
