CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...

I guess it wouldn't be a holiday if something didn't go haywire in our family. Every holiday seems to only bring drama. We were having a pleasant Thanksgiving day with my family until late in the evening when we got a call from our ED. Probably the second time we've heard from her this year. She's engaged. Oh joy. She's been living with a non-Christian man many years her senior for a few months. This is her first relationship that we've ever heard of and now she's engaged after only knowing him less than 6 months. He made an appearance at our ES wedding a few weeks ago. He looked like he had crawled out from under a rock. Terrible first impression for sure. Anyhow, we told her we were disappointed and hope she'll reconsider because he is not a believer. She doesn't care she's "happy" she says. She doesn't have a high aptitude or ability to reason so she is going to find herself in over her head very quickly. She also is terrible at relationships and sabotages them within a year at the longest. This is going to be a nightmare, we can see the writing on the wall. Navigating through other people's bad choices is really an irksome aspect of life to me! All of our 3 ECs have gotten engaged in the last 8 months and will all be married within 5 months of each other. This is not normal!

Oops, somehow I hit a short cut key to post this while I was writing the Topic. Should read "Feels like we're in the Twilight Zone". Would love an edit option!

I can totally relate. I can say things have gotten quite a bit better since I quit "navigating through other peoples bad choices". Oh i'm a mom, i still do it at times. But if they are adults and mine are, it is indeed ...their problem. Its not an easy step and I have to watch myself to maintain it........but its brought me some measure of peace. My EC married a looney. I tried to talk her out of it, remind her of his history etc etc . She laughed in my face. His bad choices are now HER problem, not mine. Its a long hard road

Boy can I relate. The only reason we are estranged from our son is because of the lunatic he married. We also tried to talk him out of it, but he laughed in our faces. And now there are two innocent children involved. In my opinion, though, what she is would be worse than a non believer. She claims she IS a Christian, yet behaves like anything but. Such hatred and drama and just plain craziness. Not to mention all of the suicide attempts, and all the assault charges. We are terrified of her. And we told him before they married that we just could not be around her. Oh we did try, for our son's sake, but it ended in disaster. And now he just seems mad at us for some reason.

Try to focus on the positive if you can ..and that is that she is talking to you now. At least for the moment. From the things I have done wrong I have learned it is better to keep quiet and be there for them when it all falls apart . I did not keep quiet and it caused alot of the issues I now have with my son. The fact that he knows I hate his wife I am sure makes him feel bad and there is nothing I can do now to change it. Even if I said oh I have changed and think your wife is great and I am sorry for not thinking that before...first of all that would be a HUGE LIE...and second it would be too late ...so better to keep quiet and pray that she opens her eyes to see if for a loser if that is what he is.

It seems the most we can do as far as our EC's choices and decisions is pray for them to see truth. Let's pray for ourselves to be filled with His Shalom. We sure need it.

Oh my our situations are a lot alike......have shared this before about our daughter running off to the Bahamas to get married to a non-Christian guy from India. Well they have no respect for women so has physically and emotionally abused her not to mention the prostitutes and thousands of dollars gone. We think she is afraid of him and he has brain-washed her like a lot of times happens. Nothing we can do she is 41 yrs old and now must 'paddle her own canoe'.....was raised in a Christian home but is so rebellious....she knows where to find God....hope she does not wait until it is too late. I think she is headed for a huge emotional crash, she is welcome to contact us as long as she shows respect.
