I felt so sad for my husband that our son made no effort to contact him on Father's Day. I didn't expect him to, but it still hurts. Our grandson, whom we haven't seen, is 6 months old. I have a picture of my husband at 6 months and one of our son at 6 months and I would love one of our grandson as well. He is the only one to carry on our family name. I am hoping to discretely get a picture off of Facebook via someone else, but since I have been cut off and I only know 2 people who are still friends with them, it is a bit tricky. Sigh..........
So I went to my first baby shower since the estrangement. Shopping at BabiesRUs (the store I last went to for my EC grandchildren) was pure torture. I saw all these outfits and items that would be perfect for our little grandson and it tore my heart apart. All of me wanted to avoid the baby shower altogether, though I gave myself a stern talking-to and enjoyed it anyway. I have no problem holding other babies, since I know they are not our own. But knowing that I am missing these precious months of our little one's life is difficult. Fortunately, he is none the worse for wear for not having us in his life. But I miss him and our autistic granddaughter...and wonder how they are doing. The only comfort is knowing that our loving God is watching over them.
