The other night my DH was reading Ecclesiastes in his Bible reading plan and read to me from Ecclesiastes 9. Ordinarily I would never think to go to Ecclesiastes for encouragement and some of it does sound pretty morbid and slightly discouraging, but at the same time we got it. Life is short, bad things happen to good people and vice versa. Live the life God has you in with acceptance. Something like that is what I got out of it. Does anybody else find Ecclesiastes 9 encouraging?! I keep going back to it and it speaks to me. (you can google "Ecclesiastes 9" if you don't have a Bible handy)
As you say, living this life with acceptance that our reward is eternal life with Christ in the future. That to me, is my encouragement. It is what keeps me going forward because when I look back, I see nothing but things I rather leave behind. Too many things I shoulda, woulda, coulda done better.
It is how we endure these same situations as unbelievers go through too that we glorify Christ. Hopefully, I will have learned by now that staying in God's Word will produce better results than not staying in His Word. We are all still a work in progress.
