CHRISTIAN PARENTS of ESTRANGED ADULT CHILDREN Community Group
Estrangement makes it difficult to talk about with family, friends, neighbors and church members. Christians are NOT immune to broken families. Talk about your experiences with those who know how you feel and get positive support through your Christian faith...."In these last days difficult times will come, for men will be lovers of self...disobedient to parents,...

I think with especially "semi-estranged" situations ...this kind of thing happens a lot. They are back and forth and up and down in their moods and distractions ~ and possibly 'sensing' our need for them, are challenged to meet that expectation. This is partly what I sense about my own SES. Also, he tends to feel a lot of shame related to struggles he's had with career and finances. Since much of our relationship has been based on being supportive toward him, emotional, financial and otherwise, I know if he's not contacting us much, it's likely that feelings of low self worth are really high. Either that or ...he and his GF are fighting.
My son has many emotional problems that affects his close relationships although his GF adds to the stress and can be difficult too - so if he's not feeling light hearted enough or feels drained (because he knows he drains us with the same problems) he holds back from calling.
When he was here at TG...his moodiness and anxiety was so oppressive, but we all slapped smiles on our faces in order not to upset him and just dealt with it. The up and down nature of things and me constantly trying to get him to help himself (through therapy etc) has become exhausting.
The last I heard from him was Dec 31st when he needed money to help with rent etc. I could tell he didn't want to ask and felt ashamed even needing to, but I didn't want him to feel ashamed; I told him there is no shame in having difficulties and that I believe in him...but please, just show a little appreciation, call a little more often.
If he's doing well or rather, when he's doing well, it means business is picking up, the GF and he aren't fighting and he's getting enough sleep. When he doesn't call or text -- it's just hard "letting go" of NOT knowing which it is... yet hoping he's doing OK, but realizing even if he is (and that's good!) that we will always come last. That there's a lack of a normal bond and he doesn't seem to want to cultivate it.
May I ask what you meant by positive emails from your ES?
We continue to pray without ceasing and commit our sadness to God. He will help us each day. I know I sure need Him. Please post here, often. We need you.
