I took the advise of my counselor and let my self be vulnerable and tell my son how I felt. So I did. I told him that I felt we were not a part of each others lives and that it broke my heart. He said he was sorry to hear that, but he felt things were better than they had been. He said that he would try more. A few days after that it was my birthday he texted me. It was a nice text said "happy birthday love ya" I feel mad at myself for letting it make me sad. I guess tome that is not trying very much. It's doing the minimum, trying to gain perspective here with all you wonderful moms.
He said Happy Birthday ... for a 21 year old ... gotta just be okay with that ... or even nothing ...
Something that being estranged has taught me the hard way is how to be happy independent of what my EC's do or don't do. It's a process ... it's normal for you to feel disappointed ... be kind to yourself. You're going to be okay.
Just remember, they're young and dumb and don't have much life perspective... They may 'get it' someday ... or they may not ... it is what it is. At this age though, I blame alot of it on the age :)
