Reading all the comments about keeping pictures up or taking down, our son has been estranged since he married an aethist who has not spoke with her mom for 15 years and insisted my son do the same. It has been 5 years. I agree with the comment to take the pictures down. I don't think my estranged son deserves to have his picture placed alongside the other family members who are loving and caring.

If I need to see his picture again, I will go to the box of his pictures. I'm sure he doesn't have my picture, or any other family members' pictures anywhere in his home!

Hi Norske1, You bring up a good point, do they have pictures of us around the house? My son might at work, but DIL would not want it in the house for sure. At one time our son did occasionally call to see how we were doing but he could never call from the house. He had to go outside and stand in the rain once.

I'm sure if my picture is up in thier house he is using it as a dart board! You all are wonderful. After 4 years I still have a very hard time and don't really know what I should or should not be doing. This site as helped so much to see others have the same feeling I do. Think the hardest part is how close my daughter and I were. She was the best child a woman could have had and then boom!

About a year and a half ago I had His pictures up, then He got married and both of their pictures were up but I lived 1000 miles away. And there was no communication. I came to a point that I had to take them all down. It's FOR ME . Not about what He deserves or doesn't deserve. He is my Child and is loved, or I wouldn't be in this grief. He is important , no matter how He behaves. Thank God that I am loved by God, no matter how I behave-as I am constantly failing God. But He is constantly forgiving Me. This is the Stance I feel is correct for me to take with regard to my Son. I took His pictures down because I could no longer bear it. But now I moved to within 5 miles of My ES/EDIL and have covered a wall with pictures of them both, and now My Grand-daughter too whom I have yet to meet and hold. And, I don't know why, but it feels comforting, when it didn't before. I don't really think or care if they have pictures of Me up.
This Disrespect,Dishonor and Betrayal of my Emotions speaks volumes to me of how Important I am to them. A picture wouldn't change how it feels to me.
I guess everyone does whatever feels less painful. And right now, surrounding my home with pictures of them being Happy and smiling makes me feel a sense of Wellness for them. And I guess, at the end of the day- I want them to be happy Ir-regardless of what they chose to inflict onto me. If they are happy without me in their lives. Well, that is precisely what I raised Him to Be.
But God knows the Dishonor , dishonors him and His commandments as well. So that is a much greater offense. And HE-God himself will deal with them. I pray for them when I look at their pictures in passing. They need my Mother prayers. They are so very Vital.
