MAJOR STUMBLING BLOCK TO FAITH 


Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not My will, but Yours, be done. 
– Luke 22:42 (NKJV) 









One of the biggest stumbling blocks to faith is a misinterpretation of Jesus’ prayer in Luke 22:42. Many people assume that this verse means we cannot know God’s will on any matter.

There certainly are times when we can pray this prayer. When we are going through a situation and the Bible gives no indication of God’s will on the matter, this prayer makes sense.

For example, if we are praying about a new job opportunity or whether to move, we can’t flip to a page in the Bible that says, “Yes, take the job,” or “No, stay where you are.” In these cases, we can pray that God’s will would be shown to us through the still, small voice of Holy Spirit.

On the other hand, when we pray for things that the Bible is clear God already promised us, it makes no sense to pray “if it is your will” prayers.

If I promised to give one of my kids a new car, it would make no sense for them to repeatedly say, “Dad, if it’s your will, please buy me a new car.” More than likely they would say, “Dad, I’m so excited that you’re buying me a new car! Thank you!”

The second you attach an ‘if’ to what you believe, you stop believing.


When you say, “Please heal me if it is your will,” that’s not faith. Instead, say, “I’m so excited that you’re healing me, Father! Thank you!”

My comments for today are the same as what I posted yesterday, verses that prove that God's will for us is to be healed:

Psalm 103:2-3 "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not ALL his benefits: (3) Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."

Matthew 8:14-17 (NLT) "When Jesus arrived at Peter's house, Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a high fever. (15) But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her. Then she got up and prepared a meal for him. (16) That evening, many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and healed all that were sick. (17) THIS fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, ‘He took our sicknesses and REMOVED our diseases.”

Of course this verse is referring back to what Isaiah said in Isaiah 53:4-5 (NLT):

"Yet it was our weaknesses he carried: it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! (5) But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed."

KJV, "....the chastisement for our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Many Hebrew scholars say that in verse 4, "weaknesses" and "sorrows" are literally "sicknesses" and "pains." I believe Matthew 8:17 confirms that.

Also the word "peace" in verse 5 is the word "shalom." According to the Strong’s Concordance, the word "shalom" refers to completeness, safety, soundness, welfare, HEALTH, and supply. It also refers to peace, quiet, tranquility, and contentment, as well as friendship in human relationships and with God in a covenant relationship.

These words that you have shared are true and your commentary pure and true as well. There was a lady, very dear to my heart that instructed me that
one should be very careful when they spoke, of how they said their words, being aware if there was a negative or positive energy attached, staying in positivity always, It is soooo easy to stumble off this path when we let our minds and words become shrouded in an unconscious disbelief,
The truth is that the power of blessing and cursing is in our tongue. With one small word we can wreck or build.

Because words also have the ability to give life, to speak blessing into a person’s future and over their present.

Words can heal.

Words can inspire.

Words can lift up the downcast soul.

Words can restore.

Because when God’s Word fills us, our words pour out and over like blessings into people’s lives.

When The Word indwells us, our words reflect the grace and love of the Person who directs us.
