The Target:  1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NKJV) – Part 1

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Set Your Sights:

This verse contains a vital truth, and it’s a truth that can set you free from the sickness that is binding you. This is the truth: You are a three-part being, made in the image of God (Gen. 1:26). Just as God is three parts – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – so are you. You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.

Your spirit is the real you, created in righteousness and true holiness the moment you are born again (Eph. 4:24). It is perfect, whole, and complete. As Jesus is, so is your spirit in this world (1 John 4:17). Your soul is your personality. It’s what makes you unique from everyone else. It is your mind, your will, and your emotions. Your body is what you live in. It’s your earth suit. You need that to be His hands, feet, and voice until you go to be with Him again one day. 

How will having a working knowledge of this truth set you free? When you know the truth about your spirit, soul, and body, you will start seeing the sickness that is attacking you as an intruder, a trespasser on holy ground. You will start separating yourself from it and begin to actively resist it. It will change your perspective of sickness, and you will no longer look at it the way the world around you looks at it, as something that is inevitable. It is inevitable only to those who don’t know the truth.

Hit Your Mark:

Your task today is to start recognizing your three parts. Your body is easy to identify because you see it and feel it, but what about your spirit and your soul? Here’s a good hint: If the statement you make starts with “I feel,” then that is more than likely from your soul. If a thought you have doesn't line up with the truth of the Word, that is from your soul. Your spirit man will always speak truth and life into every situation. Go ahead … get started!

Set Your Sights:

This verse is your answer to how you can believe and confess you’re healed even when you obviously aren’t seeing the manifestation of that healing in your physical body. Some may think about you, They’re not healed. They must be in denial. This is the truth for some people, they are in denial, and they’re just hoping that by pretending the problem isn’t there that their healing will manifest. They’re trying to conjure up faith to receive healing when they really don’t believe they’re healed.

But the truth is that every person that is born again is healed. Healing isn’t something you have to get, but something you have to receive. You saw in the previous days’ devotions that you are a three-part being and that healing is in your spirit. Saying you’re healed, even when you don’t see it, is not denial. It’s saying what God says about you and what you know is true on the inside of you. It’s saying you know that you have it before you see it happen. It’s calling those things that are not as though they are (Rom. 4:17). That is faith.

Hit Your Mark:

Grab hold of this truth today. I used to feel like a hypocrite when I’d say I was healed and it was so obvious that I wasn’t, until I believed the truth that I was already healed no matter what I felt or what the world saw. Turn your belief that you are healed into a proclamation. In the face of every opposition, declare it with full confidence. No sickness can remain in the presence of your faith-filled words!
