I certainly didn't deserve HIS grace.
But I am ever grateful that HE did !
I recently saw a movie about Peter. (Starring Omar Sharif.) It begins just after Jesus was crucified. Peter was consumed with guilt and remorse because he had denied knowing Jesus. He wanted to quit and go back to being a fisherman. Meanwhile, the apostles were expecting Peter to lead them. Jesus came and asked Peter 3 times, do you love me? (3 times, as Peter denied him 3 times.) Jesus told Peter he had a job to do. He was the rock of the church. Peter got back to work but still was wavering. Others, such as Mary and Paul helped remind him that he had important work to do...
The thing is, God has chosen each one of us to do something here on earth. He helps us along the way by sending opportunities, lessons in the Gospel, through encounters with others, in prayer, and so on. It is not for us to question why he chose us anymore than it is for us to question His will. Our job is to be obedient and do our best. And when we fail, we don't give up, we get back to work.
