Christian Fellowship Community Group
A safe place for Christians who Love Jesus Christ to meet and ask for prayer and share scriptures from the bible. We value the posting of Christian music, poems, stories and also personal testimonies. Please let us know your needs, concerns and have some fun getting to know each other. We treat each other with respect.
Several years ago my pastor challenged the congregation during a sermon to give more to God at Christmas time than they did to everyone else combined. To do this, most people have to cut back on what they spend on Christmas gifts. I've been doing it every year since. One thing I've learned is that if you're short on money for gifts to others, you can suggest to them that their be no gift exchange ahead of time, or maybe that names be drawn for family gift giving, and usually everyone likes the idea--and the ones who don't want to draw names will opt out of any gift giving with the group. Really saves a lot of money to let everyone off the hook as far as feeling they have to give a gift because they're going to get one. Once you take away the emphasis on gift giving, it's a lot easier to keep the focus on Christ!
The message of Christmas has become a commercialized frenzy. I think we should remember Christ at Christmas, after all, that is what the name is all about.
Karen how very thoughtful of you to speak out ahead of time and suggest alternatives., Not only does it change the direction of the holiday it saves people worry (some don't have the money and hate to say it.)
I love the well idea I have watched the programs, choice:: die of thirst or die from bacteria laden water, what a choice. What a wonderful gift and I think one well serves quite a few people, I forgot the number.
I hope to have a nice dinner with the kids and anybody else who would like to come. One segment of our huge family of origin is fighting (rather badly I might add) so I would assume it wont be the whole kit and kaboodle which is oh about 30 people. Mom finally quit making dinner a couple of years ago and they took everybody out to a restaurant. Mom is 81 and would not let anyone make a dish (except hubby and I did the ham and mashed potatoes and special lettuce.)
Gifts will be food. Not to be taken lightly as it will be good and plentiful. Actually maybe we could take the kids out for Christmas, depending on finances and have a meal here on Thanksgiving.. Lol you can tell I do not know what we are doing so I shall take Penguin's idea and let God lead the way. Sounds delicious either way. Now I am getting in the Holiday spirit!!
