My daughter was in the ER last night for about eight hours which included five hours of wait in the lobby area that was full with patients. Her upper back and left arm have been hurting for four days. I drove her to the ER. She was in a lot of pain and didn't want to wait long hours but I talked her into staying.
Across from us was a 30-year-old young Hispanic man who was in severe pain from his back problem. His mother and sister were with him. He sat in the wheelchair groaning on and off. The family and us couldn't avoid seeing each other and just minded each other's own business. Just about seven minutes before it was my daughter's turn to go into the ER room, the young man talked and told us he was in a car accident ten years ago and will go for a second back surgery soon. He told us his ex-girlfriend put her hand in front of his face while he was driving to get his attention. It was too late when he noticed the stop sign.
I was thinking this young man had a good family support. I hope his second surgery will be successful. One of the things I felt during the five hours of watching the man groan was it must help my daughter feel less alone in her pain. I guess another thing that came into my mind is there are a lot of people who had their good health taken away from them at a young age. The brief conversation we had with the young man was priceless. It took five hours for the ice between us and the young man to break. He was happy for us that we no longer had to wait in that lobby. He has thick long eye brows and skinny body and has a face similar to Luigi Mangione but much shorter!
I pray everyone has a wonderful weekend with plenty of rest.
