"Do whatever He tells you." John 2.5
Our continuing sanctification does not depend on our seemingly pious efforts but on doing exactly what the Lord tells us. When He demands from us to confess a sin or restitute something, we can not pray it away by ever so earnest entreaties or any other pious exercise, but we need to do exactly what He shows us.
"Make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with Him." 2. Peter 3.14
The Holy Spirit will not rest until He has completed His work of grace in us and will therefore show us again and again new spots or blemishes, we haven't seen before. This calls for our full sincerity to put to death what He has revealed to us.
"The silver is mine and the gold is mine." declares the Lord Almighty. Haggai 2.8
For some Christians it takes the longest time until the Holy Spirit is allowed to take possession of the wallet. The key to the money safe is the last thing people surrender. Therefore, it may be said with some justification that a man is not truly converted until the wallet is converted. An evangelist once wrote to me that money cannot be "christianised" because it is the very domain of Satan. That may be true for most Christians but ought not to be the normal state, for God says: "The silver is Mine and the gold is Mine." (by Christian Röckle)

I think, once Christians attitude's are changed, once their heart is settled, once they have put the matter into the hands of the Lord and they see that He is active in it, that He has a solution, and their own heart is therefore at peace, then they may begin to understand what is happening
