MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND Heb. 8.11
A man wrote in an evangelical magazine, "I have accepted the doctrines of such and such denomination". He had allowed somebody else to make up his mind for him. That is why millions of people are contented Catholics ( or Methodists or Presbyterians), because somebody does their thinking for them. Somebody assures them, says a word of love and consolation, and has done all the thinking for them. Someone higher up has taken up all responsibility. All they have to do is obey without question.
I do not want to be unkind. I only say this is why certain religious denominations can hold their people and never say, "It is you and God"; you have to find God "as the hart pants after the water brooks". (Psalm 42.1) You have to seek God alone. I will help you with Scripture and do my best, but when He meets you, it will be by yourself.

AW Tozer is making some rude assertions about people who choose to belong to a particular church.
For me, certainly, the denomination I returned to has helped me learn His ways and grow closer to Him.
In short, I made up my own mind.
Matthew 18:20
Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, I am there with you.
"religion" is man-made.
"relationship" is God made.
I would rather be know by my relationship with God, than the "religion" I practice.
And, I agree with many of you, Church is a place where I go to worship with others. Just because a person does not have the same "religion" I do is no cause to criticize them!!!
I don’t necessarily want to belong or associate with certain faiths or churches, but I do belong to a church and do declare myself under the Christian denomination. I do this because it allows me to connect with others and learn many different things I could not learn on my own. I still think on my own, have my free will to choose, and I hold myself accountable for what I do and don’t do. Church just allows me to expand my opportunities beyond my own scope and abilities.
If you don’t want to be associated with a denomination or church, that is fine and of your own choice, but please don’t insult others who chose to. It is our relationship and journey with God so let’s not be insulting to others as others should not be insulting to us.
