I Feel So Discouraged and I Want to Cry all of the
Serenity12
Where do I begin....I recently started a job. I was so excited to begin this job, but once I started the job it has been horrible. I feel like I am constantly in a nightmare that I can never seem to wake up from. I dread going into work every morning and I feel like crying all of the time (even when I am at work). I was and still have not been given any real sort of orientation in terms of what my role is at my job. It's something that I have to somehow learn on my own. Generally speaking, you'd think a job would at least give you some sort of an orientation about what you are supposed to do, the different places you are expected to go, how often you are to go to these places, etc. I got nothing. I have to go around to different staff members to ask them these questions (provided they are available). Any time I ask management, they pass the buck off to someone else. I am still not aware of all of the rules and regulations that I am supposed to be responsible for. Of the rules that I have become aware of (only because I asked, not because they told me on their own), the minute someone reviews it with me, I am supposed to know it proficiently from that point onwards (only after being told the information once). All of the rules and regulations are very, very different from what I am used to. I would think that any new employee would be given a grace period (learning curve) in that it will take some time for the new employee to get familiar with our processes and procedures. I would think I would be given some grace to make mistakes because this is all new to me and they are aware of that. However, I am not.
To add to this, I am also doing a fellowship period right now in my job. My fellowship supervisor is very condescending and makes me feel so incompetent and idiotic. She has really made me question whether this career is for me, or if I made a mistake by choosing this career. She makes me feel like a complete and utter idiot, even though she knows that this whole process and the rules of this organization are all new to me. She always gives me this "oh my gosh" look when I don't know one of the organization's rules and/or if I don't know the answer to one of her questions relating to my career field. I don't find her to be supportive at all. She treats me very differently than she does her fellow co-workers. Everything I do and every time I respond to her questions, it always seems to be the wrong response.
I am trying to be thankful to Father God for blessing me with this job. I know it doesn't sound like it, but I really am trying. I just really feel like I'm living in a nightmare. I dread going to work every single day. It takes a lot to make me cry, and know I find myself crying all of the time. I feel so overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated and discouraged. I have thought about quitting this job sooooooo many times. I would be screwed with my fellowship if I did, but I'm starting to not even care about that part anymore. No matter what I do, I'm made to feel stupid and incompetent. I'm not given training to do my job, or know everything that I'm responsible for doing for that matter. I only learn about my job responsibilities once I ask a question. I am also expected to clean up the last employee's mess as well (they were pushing me to start cleaning up the last employee's mess on my 2nd day on the job).
I am trying sooo very hard to stick it out, but every day seems to get worse (not better). I pray to God every morning and multiple times throughout the day to give me what I need to get through that day. Yet still, it only gets worse. I don't know what to do. Why is this happening? Why does this not get any better? Did I make a wrong career choice? I loved this career while I was in school, but now, with this job and this fellowship supervisor, I hate it.
I'm sorry for my ramblings. Thank you for listening to me.

I am feeling your frustrations, your pain and your confusion on what is expected of you at your employment. So sorry you seem to be in a difficult place right now. I hear you.
Have you been less than three months at this work? There is usually a time period that the place where you are employed expect you to learn on the job, and you should be given some grace period as you gain confidence in your position, and in the work that is expected of you. It does sound like a rather hostile environment for you at this time..so sorry that it's that bad for you. Place all your trust in God and He will help you get adjusted, although I know that's easier said than done.
Keep asking questions..don't be afraid to continue doing that. It will be the quickest way for you to find your place and to really be able to be effective where you are. You haven't mentioned how long this period of stress had been for you? I'm assuming it's less than three months, but if it's been longer, you may need to go to the human resources department..or to whoever you first saw when you were hired.
Be of good courage dear friend..you are certainly not the first person in the world to experience a lot of stress that comes with learning your place and where you fit in with your co-workers, and especially with your supervisor. It must be terrible to feel so badly treated by your immediate supervisor..that just sounds like a sad place to be in. Often supervisors are quite hard on "newbies", only to show their authority over you..I've personally experienced this myself. Pray for God to give you a boldness, and more confidence in your capabilities..don't let these other people bring you down.
Set up some kind of meeting with some person in authority over your supervisor..so that you can explain your situation. Problems get solved more quickly when there's open communication, versus closed and non-communication. That would be my first step..talk to someone who you've found can be an open ear and able to hear your concerns. (not the person you mentioned who has been treating you poorly, find someone who works with newer employees maybe?)
Please remember that God will help you. You've expressed your faith in God, so you can be very confident that God will certainly guide you to the right person to talk to, since this stress you are experiencing won't go away on it's own..and could get worse if you don't take some positive steps to get someone to hear you and get you situated and in a more supportive environment.
Sometimes we have to experience trials..at home, or on the job..and we don't always know why this happens to us. Usually God is teaching us a great life lesson of some kind..perhaps in your case, He wants to help you learn to speak up for yourself and gain a sense of confidence in the work you've chosen to do. This also usually takes time, and it's not automatic, and requires patience and a willingness to persevere..to keep on going, even when the going is tough!
Praying for you. Thanks for being so open and sharing with us here.
Here are some verses about crying..and eventually our grief and sorrow turn to joy.
Read John chapter 16 vs 20 " Very truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy"
1Peter 1 verse 6: "In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials."
The shortest verse in all the Bible? John 11 verse 35: "Jesus wept."
Imagine, Jesus WAS and IS God, and still He understood emotional pain, and He wept..He understands where you are right now. Trust Him to guide you.
Hope this helps some...you just need some encouragement right now. Jesus has confidence in you, and He's beside you at work..so go in His strength..He is the best back-up person with you all the time.
You are not alone..we are praying for you here..
In Jesus,
Maddie
Awful, just awful.
I guess all you can do is see if there's possibly a person that can help you MORE than others can, and make sure they know you appreciate it.
What is it that you do?
This sounds like one of those clichés (they are not clichés unless they have some validity) and the cliché is "fake it til you make it." Don't admit too much at work, stay in control and celebrate & be happy at the progress you make. Eventually, hopefully, things at work will work out.
I hate my job. I hate what I do because I feel like I am expected to meet such unrealistic expectations. I'm new and most of there procedures are very new to me. I have only been working in the field for 6 months, so I feel like I am new to the field too. Yet, I am expected to be up to par with my skills and because I am not, I am made to feel like an idiot and incompetent. Should I be skilled with only 6 months of experience in my field?
I am so stressed out all of the time. I am so unhappy. I dread waking up every morning. I don't know what to do. Every day really does get worse (I wish I was exaggerating, but I am not). I feel so lost, so cornered and so discouraged. I don't know what to do
I suggest you start praying daily for these people. Tell the Lord you forgive them for judging you unfairly and for gossip and rejection. Here is a prayer from the book "When you need a miracle."
Dear Lord, I forgive those who have judged me unfairly, gossiped about me, rejected me, or believed a lie about me. I realize the enemy is the author of false judgments, rejection, and lies. Therefore, I break the assignments and consequences of false judgements, rejection, and lies connected to me in the power and authority of the name and blood of Jesus. I ask you to grant me your grace and favor in my relationships with others.
In Jesus' name amen.
You might want to add this one too:
Dear Lord, If I've believed a lie, rejected, or been deceived about a friend, colleague, or family member, please forgive me. Open my eyes to the truth. Please restore our relationship. In Jesus' name amen.
Pray them daily for at least 1 month and see what the Lord does. Also, don't forget to praise God on a regular basis...it releases miracles. God bless you Serenity12
remember too that once prayed that the prayer stays with God it doesnt go away it is always there
I pray for your peace and i do also really like the prayers of misred.
Remember..people will hurt us its the nature of humanity..If the Lord is calling you else where for your peace of mind ..I suggest you pray about that.
God loves you SO VERY much and to HIM you are so valuable !!
I love Misred's advice to pray for those being difficult. (It is something I ought to have done only yesterday. aargh! I may have been able to avoid some massive unpleasantness.)
Hang tough Serenity.
