Everybody goes through periods where they don't feel God. I remember reading that Mother Theresa went through a "dry" spell where she did not feel God's presence that lasted for years. And she's a Saint! Ultimately, she said that this dry period helped her better understand the pain that our Lord endured for us.

Ive never really felt close to God...I so desperatly want to but dont know how or why I cant...Im just so lost...
But please dont worry about my safety, I may give into urges of self injury, but nothing to serious.

For many, quieting the mind is what helps them feel God. I have trouble stopping, slowing down, quieting my mind sometimes. But who says you can't pray and seek God while on the move! I find I am most able to quiet my mind when I'm doing a chore- like picking up the dog poop in the yard or vacuuming the living room.
Hang in there Jules. God is with you. Keep seeking Him.

There are also times full of worry, like when I'm driving in city traffic, that I talk to God!! Like I would a friend who is in the car with me. (Because He is!!) "That fool could use some help. Be with them, Lord!!"
The devil wants you to believe bad things about yourself, but he lies.
I became closer to God when I took a class at my church called journey to wholeness and I began reading scripture everyday. Reading scripture outloud is a sword against the enemy . Christian music helps as well.
Repeat outloud everyday, God loves me.
I will pray for you to know Gods loves, peace, and comfort and joy.
Confession is another great way to feel closer to God. Do you do things you know you shouldn't? Bring those things to the Lord and ask for Him to forgive you and help you overcome them with His strength. It's something I started doing this year and the results are amazing to say the least. It breaks strong holds. I have been struggling with envy and jealousy and I have managed to nip those feelings in the bud when I go to God with it.
It is important to protect your eyes and ears from things that are not godly. What you watch and listen to impacts you in a big way without realizing it. If you don't listen to KLove already I highly recommend MaryTurk's suggestion in reply 7. The music is positive and encouraging. The apostle Paul said in his letter to the Philippians......whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
His presence, sacrificial love and the gifts that he lavishes on you, captives your heart. Jesus urges you to rest with him and know the enemy is Under your feet and Not worthy to have any of your focus or attention. I am praying for you .
