Basically hypnosis is you submiting yourself under someone else to control of your mind anywhere from a mild state to a deep state. You have to consent and submit your will for this solution. I say from personal experience,don't give Satan a foot hold. Did you ask God to help you with weight loss? Did you ask God about hypnosis? When you said you really didn't think there was a problem yet your curious about what other Christians think it sounds as if your not at rest about what you think.

I don't think what you're describing is true hypnosis. You're not unconscious when you listen to the CD, are you? I think it might be more suggestion than hypnosis. If you're unconscious, other ideas might be introduced that would be contrary to what we believe as Christians. They also say that no one can be hypnotized to do something they would consciously find morally wrong.

Amarcia, I think you are describing this the best. Sometimes I do fall asleep while I am listening to the CD, but I don't really ever get to the point where I can't hear things around me or not remember what I am doing. And if I fall asleep, then I usually dream about what I am thinking about and I don't really hear what he is saying. The man on the CD actually says, listen to my suggestions. It is not like he is putting my into a weird mode and that he can tell me to bark or act like a chicken. It is the power of suggestion to eat healthier and be more confident about myself. It has actually helped with my depression also. I talk to God alot while I am listening to it also.

My pastor mentioned this during a recent sermon and it made sense to me. He said that if you let your mind become too open (as in hypnosis) then you may be allowing the devil to creep in. The devil will use anything he can to get into the mind of a christian. I think he looks for these "openings". I would be careful.

You're right we don't do anything we don't want to do while under hypnosis but we know sinning comes natural for humans( good ole Adam and Eve)...Only God can change that...If you really want to do this, take a friend and have that friend in the room praying for you... I not saying satan can take over while you are under, I'm saying you are open to suggestions...Isn't that the idea of hypnosis, to suggest you do or don't do something...

I use hypnotherapy quite a bit in doing psychotherapy. It is a tool and the only description that clinicians can agree on is "an altered state of consciousness." Some clinicians use the old watch inducement technique so the person feels they have genuinely been induced. I use an interrupted hand shake. Hypnosis is a tool, not an end. I have used the technique mentioned very successfully for those who want to lose weight. For smoking I induce amnesia. At least that is how I do it. Others claim success using another method. I have used it to aid in painless child birthing too. All sorts of things. An NLP double dissociation for de-traumatizing and removing specific phobias in under five minutes.

BTW you most certainly can be led to do something you don't want to do while in trance. That you cannot is an old wives tale. Also, re anchoring is usually only good for about thirty days, then a new anchor really should be induced. If not a new one as with weight loss, then re done. I may not get a nun to strip naked for amusement sake but I can get one to disrobe if I get her to believe she is in a shower.

Gee I did not know that,about doing stuff you don't want to do... I guess you better trust your DR...and I still think having a friend there praying for you is a good idea...

Amarcia hahaha...seriosly tho my ex mother in law is famous in the new age world. Google Delores Cannon, but pray first, seriously. I had to get away from that whole family. And had demonic attacks when I came to the Lord. I was also raised in occult in my own family. But I have seen past life regression hypnosis done. I had it done by her once too. I didn't like it and it felt demonic. As for the hypnosis for smoking, etc... it may not be bad. But I wouldn't do it after my experiences. Prayer to God is the best help for me. Blessings, JF

I don't think hypnosis is all that safe or legitimate. They've featured it on Penn & Teller's show on Showtime (Bulls---). I don't want to contradict the psychotherapist, but I just am not comfortable telling you to try it.
