Christian Fellowship Community Group
A safe place for Christians who Love Jesus Christ to meet and ask for prayer and share scriptures from the bible. We value the posting of Christian music, poems, stories and also personal testimonies. Please let us know your needs, concerns and have some fun getting to know each other. We treat each other with respect.
Intense can be good, especially if you are intense about the right things.
I grew up with what I am just recognizing as emotional abuse from my mother. I've also survived rape and sexual abuse...struggled with undiagnosed depression and PTSD for years until God kinda dragged me into therapy. While my home growing up was not as dangerous as yours, under the "we are such a wonderful family" surface, it was not always a safe place for me.
The reason I say all that is because I want you to feel safe here. A number of us know what it's like to be wounded and broken. We know what it is to struggle. It's a good thing when we can be honest and open about that, instead of pretending that our lives are constantly filled with Christian joy.
A few things I am beginning to learn:
1. Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8 is one of my favorite Bible chapters.) And that means NOTHING. That love is there and it is constant, even in my darkest hours when my faith is shattered. God's love was there during every horrible painful thing that was ever done to me. Same for you.
2. What our abusers said and did to us does not reflect on us, but on them. (I have to admit I'm still struggling with believing this one.) In other words, there was no flaw in us
that made anyone abuse us. We were abused because our abusers were...well, they were abusers! We didn't cause or deserve our abuse. And all the crap they said about us? It is only more evidence of abusiveness. It says nothing of our own value and self-worth.
I have kids of my own, and three of them are grown up. I have made my share of mistakes with them. But it never dawned on me for a moment to tear them verbally or to play favorites or to fill them with guilt and shame. As a kid, I had purposed never to do and say the wounding, destructive things my mother did and said -- and it was never even a temptation. I tried to convince my therapist that my kids were and are much easier to raise than I was, but I am beginning to see that the real difference is that I am not abusive like my mother.
So, you and I, and others who have been through similar things, need to replace those Satanic lies with God's truth. We are fearfully and wonderfully made...precious in His sight...His beloved children.
