Building Up My Daughter's Self-Esteem the Chr

My 11 year old daughter seems to be struggling with self-esteem. She's very shy and doesn't make friends very easily. We are going to church tomorrow (after not going for months) and she doesn't want to go.

Does anyone have any advice or knows of any books or printed material that might help.

I would have to think that by telling your daughter she is going with you to Church is a matter of fact, not an option...BUT you will perhaps stop @McDonalds after Church (or other choice) as a perk of going to Church with you? This may be all your daughter needs to get in the right frame of mind...and to enjoy being out with you, of course! I take my son on weekly errands (he's 10) & the stop @Arbys is the highlite of the day-lots of one on one time is so good for kids, right? Hope your daughter soon comes to look forward to your routine Church outings!

That's an idea and an insentive to get her to go. I know it will be difficult for her at first, but I'm hoping she'll make some friends in Sunday school and it might be easier for her. Thanks for the idea.

I was very shy as a child and if I look back I think most of it came from the idea that others were judging me and I didn't want to expose myself to them at all (like not going to church and such). I usually worried about my clothes or hair or shoes or my manners not being what was expected.

Maybe try telling her that God loves us all the same and the idea of church is that we all love each other and that the goal is for everyone to be accepting ... like it's a SAFE place. That God looks at our insides, not so much our outsides and mention other ideas to even the playing ground so to speak. Just a thought.

YES! YOU WANT YOUR DAUGHTER TO BE CONFIDENT ,i COACH BOXING AND I KNOW IT TO BE A FACT ,THAT SPORTS HELP KIDS BECOME VERY CONFIDENT AND HAVE MORE SELF-ESTEEM THEN A PARENT CAN HANDEL ,BELIEVE ME TRY KARATE OR SOFEBALL BASKETBALL OR ANY SPORT THAT GIRLS HER AGE ARE INTO IN YOUR TOWN.

Thank you for all these great confident boosters. My daughter did go to church with us, but stayed with us in the church. She was so terrified when we took a look around the Sunday school. I'm hoping next Sunday she might bring a friend to go with her.

My daughter is starting Lacrosse next month. I'm hoping that will bring her confidence. Thank you all for your great advise.
