God deals with me daily on the importance of being humble. Just scripture after scripture. I sometimes cry out, "God, am I really that arrogant?" But I think humility is more than just the way we act, it is a constant remembrance to put our total trust, faith and confidence in God, and nothing else. I've been struggling with RA flares and asthma. Whining about how bad things are. But maybe God is allowing this for a season or longer, so that I will listen to him and humble myself before him.

But God asks me to trust him, no matter what is happening.

"For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation." Psalm 147:4

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom." Prov. 11:2

"Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." Matt. 23:12

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you." James 4:10

"Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind." 1 Peter 3:8

"He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8

No wonder I keep running into the importance of being humble, it is literally all over the Bible.

I forget the where but even Jesus said do your good deeds quietly, even secretly, so they are done between you and God. I am still ashamed at myself for not doing things I could have done....An example of this is when I was living in Chicago....Although I was not in downtown Chicago often, when I was there you would come across a person on the street who was obviously not in good shape and holding their empty coffee can. At the time I was middle class and did have money to spend and should have given some of these people at least a few dollars. Sometimes I did help out others in their neediness but I still know I did not do as much as I could have.....And downtown Chicago is loaded with people going to and from work loaded with money. 99%+ of these money loaded people would always just walk on by. Some of these beggars are full of shit and actually make a living off of their collecting....But others are in actual need. Never the less, I still did not do my part and am ashamed because of it. If I ever return to work and have money to spare I will not shame myself again.

God has been working on me in this area also. It's part of realizing that He's the one in control, not me. I can get wrapped up in thinking I have to keep tight control or everything will go wrong. God has shown me that I need to let go and let Him and other people do there thing. My way isn't the only way.

In the past, I've been cocky enough not to pray twice for a desperate need like a healing. But results are what counts and not the method, whether it seems glorious enough.

"And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, Do you see anything?
