I wrote this Poem for a friend and thought I would share it here with my Christian Friends.
What Christmas means to me
Often times when Christmas comes
At the ending of every year
We get caught up in worldly things
In festivity and the cheer
I remember in my childhood
Growing up in a Christian home
We didn't have a lot of things
That most folks seemed to own
My parents always had a tree
And mom would hang the lights
The kind that bubbled, when they burned
They were such a pretty sight
There never were a lot of gifts
Or presents under the tree
One or two for mom and dad
My brother, my sister and me
Mom and dad did the best they could
To try and raise me right
The greatest thing they did for us
Was teach us of Jesus Christ
They told me of His lowly birth
In a far and distant land
No one life has touched this world
As this babe from Bethlehem
We know little of His childhood
Growing up near Galilee
His Public life was about three years
Then He died upon a tree
He was born in a borrowed manger
Never owned a house or home
Spent His life among the needy
Had little to call His own
He spoke of love and kindness
He healed the blind and lame
He touched the broken hearted
And today, we praise His name
He gave His life for all mankind
His blood He shed for all
That we may have eternal life
When upon His name we call
Most people think of Christmas
About happiness, love, and joy
But, I was taught this story
When I was just a boy
May you know the Christ of Christmas
Let your troubled heart be free
Place your soul in His safe keeping
That's what Christmas means to me.

What a lovely and true poem! Thank you for sharing your Christmas poem. Christmas means to me the simpler remembrance of Christ's birth and his coming into my life, rather than the glitzy commercialism today (which I can't stand). It should be a humble day of everyone's remembrance of Jesus Christ coming into their lives, who gave himself as a sacrificial atonement for us sinners.
