Things that remain the same--Isaiah 59: vs1-2
OLDBIKER
This is the beginning of a new year. All of us see the ads of the new baby-representing the new year and the old man, with white hair, who represents the old year. I am glad we all don't age that fast in 365 days. As we go through this life, we all see many changes, of which I will mention and, there are things that remain the same.
We live in an ever changing world. Some changes are for the good, some are not so good. Here are a couple that I will mention.
Automobiles:
In 1896, Henry Ford made his first car and drove it around. It was called a Quadricycle because it was made with 4 bicycle tires on it. In 1908, he made the first car as we know it and called it the Model T. The cost was about $500.00 for this car. Henry Ford was a very frugal man and the left over wood, used to re-enforce the car bodies was turned into charcoal. This is where Kingsford Charcoal originated from a family friend named E. G. Kingsford.
Henry Ford was one of the first, if not the first, to mass produce the automobile. The Model T was built from 1908 to 1928, then, came the Model A, from 1928 to 1932. Then came the v-8 engine and the "flat head" v-8 engine was run until 1954 when Ford went to the overhead valve engine and, the rest is history. Shortly came power windows, power steering, air conditioning, etc.
Aviation:
The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, first started off with gliders, etc. and in 1903, they made their first manned flight, that lasted 12 seconds. In 1904, a longer flight was made that lasted over 5 minutes and thus, the airplane was born. In 1909, the government bought their first plane from the Wright Bros. for $25,000. In 1912, the first armed plane was made. Wilbur Wright died in 1912 and never really got to see the advancement of their success. Orville on the other hand, did get to see and enjoy their successes and he died in 1948. The propellered was used from 1903 to late 1953 when the jet engine came into production.
Now today, we have the stealth Bomber which cost about 50 million dollars to build. I dould go on and on, about the changes in the past 75 or 80 years, fans, A/C, electricity, home construction, tools, etc.
There are 3 things that never change but, remain the same.
1. God's power to save:
"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save" vs-1
It will remain the same till the end of time.
a. God is able to save us physically.
1. The Israelites from Pharoah at the Red Sea.
2. Moses from The Pharoah degree of death
3. Daniel from the Lion's den
4. Hebrew children from the fiery furnace
5. The repentant thief on the cross at Calvary and guaranteed him Eternal Life in Paradise.
All these mentioned were physical death except number 5 and the thief was saved from Spiritual death.
Jesus said "I came to seek and to save, that which was lost." If we ask in repentance, like the thief on the cross, Jesus will save us as well. I ask Him in 1973 and He saved me.
II. God's ability to hear and answer prayer remains the same:
"Neither is His ear heavy, that it cannot hear" vs-1
As we said earlier, God heard the cries and the prayers of the Israelites in Egyptian captivity. (Exodus 3: vs 7-8) God told Moses that "I have seen their affliction". "I have heard their cry". Because of this, He called Moses to deliver them.
God has many promises concerning answering prayer. Jesus said "ask and ye shall receive". (Matt. 7: vs 7-8. The early church prayed and thousands were saved. Acts 1:vs 14 and Chpt 4: vs 31-33.
Christians prove everyday of God answering prayers.
How many who read this message, were saved because somebody prayed for you? I am here today, because my father never gave up on me and he continually prayed for me to be saved. Churches today pray and see God answer prayer. One of the greatest tests of a great church today, is it's prayer life. This also is true of a strong Christian's personal life. A praying church is a powerful Church. A praying church is a blessed church. A praying church is a church that sees souls saved and scares Satan.
III. The Destruction caused by Sin, remains the same:
"Your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid his face from you, that He will not hear". Vs-2
A. Sin hinders our prayers. Psalms 66 vs 18 says "if we regard iniquity in my heart, God will not hear me". You ask what is "iniquity"? The dictionary says that it is "a wicked act, a sin or morally objectionable behavior or misconduct. In James ,Chpt. 1 vs 15, he give the downward spiral of sin.
a. lust--we see it or think it
b. sin- - we do it.
c. death--result of it. ( the wages of sin is death) Romans 6:23 Mankind cannot escape the consequences of sin. Numbers 32: vs 23 "our sins will find us out"! We can fool friends, family, parents, and Pastor but, we cannot fool God!!!!!!! Here are a few other things that remain the same and thank God, they do.
Man's need for salvation remains the same.
God's love for sinners remains the same.
The way of salvation remains the same.
God's power to save, God's power to hear and answer prayer and, the penalty and destruction from sin are constant. If any one, attains eternal life in Heaven, it is by God's way. Jesus said "I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE, NO MAN cometh unto the Father. BUT BY ME.
Jesus is the way of forgiveness, of love, of salvation, of eternal life and Heaven as our eternal home.
I am so thankful, that there are THINGS THAT REMAIN THE SAME.
May all of you have a Happy and Blessed New Year in 2011. (Closer to Heaven in two thousand and eleven)
