We are nearing the time that we all know as Thanksgiving Day" The tradition here in America is to remember the Pilgrims and the thanksgiving that they gave for the New World, the Religious freedoms that they had, and for God's provisions for them.
I wonder just how thankful we are today as Christians. Somewhere along the line, I feel we are slowly losing our dependence on God and relying on Washington DC.
To me, saying thanks is "a Habit that will not hurt us"
If we remember the story in Luke Chpt. 17. vs 11-19, we see the story where Jesus healed 10 lepers but, only one returned to tell Jesus "Thanks
When I was a kid, my parents taught me to say "thanks' when someone gave me something of did something to benefit me. I have noticed in today's world that we are lacking in teaching this "Habit". I have done this myself and you can do this too. Stand near a door way and open the door for a young person and do the same for an older person. In my findings, Most of the time, the younger person will goon through the door and say nothing while the older person will turn and say "thank you".
When your son or daughter tells you "thank you", doesn't this bring a sense of Joy inside your soul and heart? Don't you think God likes to hear us say "Thank you" too? Often times we come to God telling Him what we want instead of thanking Him for what we already have.
Wives, how long has it been since you told your husband:
1. That you are thankful that he is your husband.
2. That you are thankful for the work he does that provides for your family.
2. that you are thankful that he is your protector, lover, and best friend.
Husbands, ditto for you too. How long has it been since you said thanks to your Wife:
1. For the laundry being done, socks in your drawer, clothes in your closet
2. The house kept clean, neat, and organized
3. The food she shops for, prepares and serves to you and your family
I have said this many times, "a man can build a house but, a woman makes it a home".
Giving thanks must be worked at, to become a "Habit that won't hurt you"
True Thanksgiving to me are these things mentioned and these I have listed below.
Thanking God for the Gift of life
Thanking God for what others have done for you
Thanking God for Opportunities He has given you in life
Thanking God for Inspiration to inspire and encourage others
Thanking God for physical strength to survive
Thanking God for Spiritual insight of Salvation that is in His Son Christ Jesus.
Thanksgiving is Gratitude from the heart shown by the presence of Action.
May we all be Truly Thankful and acquire this "Habit that won't hurt you"

i agree we don't say thank you enough for the thoughtfulness of others, and even more sadly we don't thank God near enough for all the things He does for us on a daily basis.
Here is the scripture you asked me to add in the message you send me:
1 Thes. 5:18 'give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.'
this verse particularly touches my heart right now as i seek to praise Him (which is a way of giving thanks) during a very hard and troubling time in my life.
