God Given Talents Matt. 25 vs-14-18
OLDBIKER
In these Scripture verses today. Jesus told the story about 3 men who were given talents . To one servant, he gave 5 talents, to another, he gave 2 talents and yet to another, he gave one talent. The basis of this story was to emphasize what we do with the talents we are given.
I believe, there are talents given to everyone. Some may be more evident than others and some may have more than others but, I believe each of us have at least one talent. I wish to mention just 3 today due to 3 different servants mentioned in our text today.
I. The Talent of Time: Genesis Chpt 5 vs-32and Chpt. 7 vs-6
This talent is given to each of us, even though we may not see it as a talent. I will comment on this to show you where I am coming from.
A. Noah for instance, had 100 years building the Ark.
a. He no doubt preached about the coming doom although no-one listened.
100 years to build, to preach, to witness for God and yet, he had no converts.
B. Moses--was 120 years old when he died. Deut. 34 vs-7.
He was 80 when God called him to lead Israel from Egyptian bondage. He spent 40 years in the
wilderness then died on Mt. Nebo, buried by God's own hand. He was a man who was raised by
Pharoah yet, gave it all up to be joined with his people of Israel. So, Moses had 40 years as God's
leader of His people.
C. Abraham lived 175 years. Gen. 12: vs 1-20.
He came to know the Lord when he was about 75 years old. He came from a Pagan society, yet
God called him to leave Horan and he walked with the Lord for 100 years.
D. The Thief on the Cross-- Luke 23 vs 40-43.
I do not know how old this man was nor do I know his name. I do know that after Jesus spoke these
words to him "verily, verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in Paradise", that he did not live
but just a few hours more.
Many people today, like these mentioned, differ in the Talent of Time. Some may only have 10, 20, 50 or
maybe 70 years. We do not know.
What you have done with the Talent of Time, you have been given, is what you will give an account for at
the Judgment Seat of Christ.
II. The Talent of Talents:
Each of us, like I have said, have been given talents. Some may have more but, we each have them. What
you have, you may not consider a talent but, it is a talent none the less. I will list just a few for your consideration.
A. The talent of Music:
1. Having a voice to sing
2. Having the ability to play an instrument
3. Having the ability to write songs and/or music
B. The talent of your hands:
1. Being able to be a mechanic
2. Being able to be a Carpenter
3. Being able to be an Artist
4. Being able to be a Baker/cook
5. Being able to be do sewing/seamstress
6. Being able to do decorating/arranging
C. The Talent of the Mind:
1. Being able to write poetry
2. Being able to write short stories/Children's books
3. Being able to master computers/their programs, etc.
4. Being able to invent
D. The Talent of Communication:
1. Being able to speak to invoke enthusiasm, hope and courage to people
2. Being able to be a story teller that enriches peoples lives in thought or even in humor
3. Being able to teach, whether it be in the secular world or, in a Sunday School or church realm
4. Being able to Preach, to the masses or to a small church somewhere out in the middle of nowhere
Are you using this talent to glorify God? God has gave this talent to you. Should you not use it for His Glory?
On a personal note: I was given the talent to play piano. I listened to and watched my mother. I watched the
great piano players on TV, etc. I play by ear and can not read music. I started playing when I was 5 years old yet, for 10 to 12 years, I played in bars, taverns and juke joints, playing music for all the wrong reasons, until I was saved at 29 years old. Now, for the past 38 years, I have been playing Gospel concerts and in my church.
III. The Talent of Treasure:
This talent can cover many areas. Most people, when you mention treasure, their minds automatically click
to money.
Jesus said in Matt. 6 vs 21 "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Just prior to this verse in verses 19-20, Jesus said "lay not up for yourselves treasure upon earth, where
moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal but, lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal."
1. Luke 18 vs 22
Jesus told the rich young ruler to sell all and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven.
These treasures are the acts of kindness and compassion that you do for others.
1. Giving to the poor
2. Giving of your time to others and for others
3. Giving of your talents mentioned to and for others
4. Personally, I believe the greatest treasure in heaven will be the souls we have won to Christ.
a. The soul does not grow old.
b. It does not rust
c. It can not be stolen
Solomon said "He that winneth souls is wise".
Stop and think for a minute! What is of the greatest value to God?
Jesus said "What profit a man, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul!!!!!!!
There was a song written by Ray Boltz a few years back and I would like to share the lyrics with you that examplifies this message:
" I dreamed I went to Heaven and you were there with me
We walked upon the streets of Gold, beside the Crystal sea
We heard the angels singing, then someone called your name
You turned and saw this young man and, he was smiling as he came.
He said you may not know me now but then he said but wait
You used to teach my Sunday School when I was only eight
And every week you would say a prayer before the class would start
And one day when you said that prayer, I asked Jesus in my heart".
Then another man stood before you He said "remember the time
A missionary came to your church and his pictures made you cry
You didn't have much money but, you gave it any way
Jesus took that gift you gave and that's why I'm in Heaven today
One by one the came, as far as the eyes could see
Each life somehow touched by your generosity
Little things you had done, sacrifices that you made
They were unnoticed on this earth in Heaven now proclaimed.
And I know up in Heaven you are not supposed to cry.
But I am almost sire there were tears in your eyes
As Jesus took your hand and you stood before the Lord
He said "My son look around you, great is your reward"
Chorus:
Thank you, for giving to the Lord
I am a life that was changed
Thank you, for giving to the Lord
I am so glad you gave.
I am that life, that was changed, by others giving the talents of time, the talents of talents and, the talents of
treasures. These all touched my life and since Sept of 1973, I have been returning and sharing the talents given to me, that I might share them with others.
God Bless and have a Great Weekend.
