Father's Day Luke Chpt 15 vs11-24
OLDBIKER
Father's day is tomorrow and Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there.
Today's message is a bit different. It is a parallel of 2 sons. One story was told by Jesus in Luke Chpt 15 which is often referred to as the prodigal son. This is the first of the 2 sons I mentioned.
This young man, left his father and went into a far country and there he spent his living with riotous living. It today's society, he would have been referred to as a "Party Animal and a "Playef". When his money was all gone, most of his "so called friends" abandoned him and he had no place to live, no money, no food, it has squandered it all. He ended up feeding pigs and was even tempted to eat what they were eating. He finally "came to himself" the scripture says and he arose and went back to his father. As he neared his home, his father saw him and ran to this son, hugged and kissed him. He had shoes brought for his feet, a robe for his back and a ring placed on his hand. They killed a fatted calf and had a great feast in celebration of this son coming home.
The second son in this message was raised in a Christian home. His father was old when he was born and when the son was in his late teens, he left home, got married for all the wrong reasons. When the marriage started to fail, this son got to drinking very heavily, he began to use drugs, grew his hair long, wore a beard and many people thought he was crazy. He was looked down on by the touns people, church people did not associate with him nor did they even visit him or invite him to church. The elderly father of this son, prayed for years, that this son would get his life straightened up, He called different preachers and had them pray for this wayward son. This son continued in his riotous lifestyle, had run-ins with the police, got into fights, his marriage became a shambles and finally ended in divorce.
For 9 years or more, this elderly dad kept praying for his son. He never gave up on his son and he never gave up on God. 10 years went by and one day, this son called his dad and in tears he told him that he had gave his life to Christ. The father was in his late 80's now and he was overjoyed. His son asked his dad to forgive him for all the worry and stife he had caused him , through all the years. He asked his father if he would perform a marriage for him and his girlfriend. The father agreed. After the marriage, later that fall, the son invited his father to he and his wife's baptism and the father attended.
The father lived 5 more years and went to be with the Lord at 94 years old. During these last 5 years, this father and son, became closer than they had ever been in either of their lifetimes. This aging father even got to set in church and see and hear his son preach. What joy filled this father's heart and life.
Jesus told this first story about the Prodigal Son in Luke Chpt. 15 so, I know this story is true. I told this story about the second son and I know it is true as well because, I am that son and the elderly man, was my father.
Just as the father looked for his son to come home, in Luke Chpt. 15, my father looked and prayed for me to come home too.
My dad was a wonderful dad. He disliked what I did, how I lived, etc., but, he never stopped loving me through it all. I am so thankful for my dad's prayers and I truly believe, he is the reason that I am saved today and have been a minister and Pastor now for 36 years.
Fathers, if you have a wayward son or daughter. Do not give up praying and in spite of what they say, what they do or, how they live, stay loving them. Prayer changes things. I am living proof!!!!!!!!
Happy Father's Day and may God bless this message.
