False Prophets--Who They are and What They Do, Mat
OLDBIKER
Before I begin this message, I would like to inform you that I will not be posting a message for Oct. 25th. I will be gone that weekend. Perhaps Deb. can fill in for me that weekend,
I don't know if any of you know or remember who William Booth was but, he was the gentleman that founded the Salvation Army. I found a statement, that he made years ago and I believe he was right on target, Here is what he said. "I am convinced of the opinion that the chief dangers which we confront in the century will be religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ, Forgiveness without repentance, Salvation without regeneration, and Heaven without Hell".
Take a look around folks, we are almost there. Why has this happened? How did we get in this state on society?
Prophets were Preachers of their time so lets kick it up to modern day preachers. Many are just mixing enough scripture in their messages (talks, addresses) that it seems ok and accepted but, kool-aid tastes like Kool-aid even though it has arsenic in it.
False beliefs and false religions will kill you spiritually.
1. What is a false Prophet? How can we know or identify them?
Jesus referred to them as wolves in sheep's clothing. These are deceivers. They are disguised.
Did you know that in Biblical times, the shepherds, wore sheep skin coats. The sheep would get the scent of another sheep, from the oil in the wool coat so, they would not be alarmed and the shepherd could walk among them and not startle them or make them feel threatened,
Wolves can destroy a herd of sheep in a short time. As a kid on the farm, we had some big dogs get in our sheep and kill quite a few. In Acts, Chpt20:29 it speaks of wolves entering the flock. Again, in sheep's clothing.
2' We are to beware of these False Preachers and Teachers:
They preach an easy religion/ salvation. Most of their followers are happy and content. These false prophets do what they do for prestige, greedy gain of money and popularity. What they preach is popular to their audiences/congregations because they preach a "feel good" message which is what their people want to hear. If they are fortunate, they may preach 10 to 15 minutes and they may use some scripture or they may just give an oratory on what they believe or whatever. There is little or so salvation in their messages and they seldom if ever, give an altar call or invitation to the lost who may be there,. There are churches today, who have not had anyone saved there for 10 to 40 years. Folks, something is wrong somewhere,
Their churches are culture clubs and social gathering places, where the elite meet. These are usually the biggest, the best and the most popular church in town,
If a preacher is preaching the "true Gospel", he steps on toes occasionally and society today, as a whole, does not like that. Getting your toes steeped on "hurts" and they want a "feel good" message, as I mentioned before.
Beware of any preacher who is afraid to preach a "toe walking message: once in a while. Jesus did a bit of toes walking in His time as well and He called the Organized Religionists of His day, a generation of vipers.
3. These False Preachers place Jesus in the background of Worship. They place society in the forefront and place Jesus in the background. These preachers are more interested in Society than they are in souls.
They are more interested in programs than they are people. They are more interested in committees than they are commitment. They are more interested in fun than in fundamentals. They are more interested in Popularity than they are Eternity!
I found a story here a while back that kind of fits this. A Mexican merchant would carry bread through the market place and he would holler out "Bread, Bread". He was asked what kind of bread he had and his answer was this. "I have bread that costs money and I have bread that is free" , He would take his Bible and show the people where Jesus said "He was the bread of life". John 6:35. Here is what that scripture says"
"I am the bread of life, he that cometh unto me shall never hunger and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst:! Here it is in a nutshell folks,
Those that preach this "social gospel" for the body, are false prophets if they do not preach Jesus is the bread for the immortal soul.
4. These same false Preachers and teacher cause some to doubt the Bible as being God's infallible word!.
They seldom use a scripture for the basis of their message, if they do, they leave it in the jarkon of whatever else they speak about. They accept the Bible as a literary work of art, but, they do not preach it as God's instruction book for the way of life for a Christian.
111. What is the result of these False Preachers and Teachers?
a. they teach being born in a Christian home makes you a Christian. "News Flash"!! It Doesn't!!!!!!!!!!!
b. they teach that joining a church makes you a Christian. No it does not!!!!!!
Many will be falsely convinced they are saved, Many will have a false sense of security of salvation. Many will believe they are going to Heaven because they got baptized, joined a church or gave their money to the church or some time to a charitable organization or by being a good neighbor.
Salvation does not come by what we do. Salvation comes by what Christ has already done. You see, the Old Testament law said "DO". The New Testament Gospel says "Done".
Jesus came to save lost people, To be saved notice Jesus said 'cometh unto me" and to "believe on me".
We get saved when we admit we are a sinner, realize we can't save ourselves. we realize that Jesus is the only way of Salvation and we repent of our sins, and ask Jesus to forgive us and become our Saviour and Lord.
What you have done or where you have been doesn't matter. Christ will save you if you ask Him in faith believing.
False Prophets and False teachers will deceive you and destroy you.
Jesus Christ will save you and He will keep you. Forever.
Amen and Amen
