Conduct of a Christian Titus 2:1-9 & Chpt 3:1-
OLDBIKER
The above texts are from the Apostle Paul's writings to Titus Who had been left in Crete to establish the Church and set up some basic fundamentals of Christian Living.
Most of the unsaved people in the world will use one main excuse for not being a Christian and some people who were once faithful Christians will use the same excuse. They both measure or compare the conduct of a Christian, to justify their own way of living or lifestyle.
When the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy about what needed to be done at the church of Ephesus, he gave him certain guidelines which are consistent with those he wrote to Titus in our Text today. There were 4 main areas that Apostle Paul addressed, one of which we will concentrate on today and that is CONDUCT!!!!!
1. SENIOR MEN; vs-2
Paul mentions words like sober, grave, temperate, statements like sound in faith, sound in charity(love) and patience. Let me break this down a little bit farther so no-one gets the wrong concept that Paul is addressing.
a. sober--this does not mean walk around like you have been weaned on pickle juice. It means that you are fully away of what sin is, where it leads, and the cost of what it does in a person's life.
b.Grave--this does not mean to look like warmed over death. It means that we see the light of Eternity in contrast with this short life span we have here on earth.
c.Temperate--this pretty well explains itself. This means we have self control and everything is under control.
d. Sound in Faith--this means, know what you believe and why you believe it. If there is a weakness in churches today, it is people don't know what they believe or why. It's just something they have accepted based on what uncle Fred or aunt Hilda believed or how dad and mom raised us.
e.Sound in Love--as we grow in faith, our Christian love should grow for other Christians and for lost people.
f.Sound in Patience--means that we should be be patient with people and be kind in our understanding
II. Senior Women: vs 3-4
Here is where some women get the idea that Paul was a male Chauvinist and a woman hater. This is not true. Paul stated in many of his writings what duties women can do and praised them for doing them.
a. Be of good behavior:--this means they are to be sound in their Christian life.
b. Not false accusers--they are not to be gossipers or back biters, talking behind the back of another Christian.
c. Not given to much wine--They are not to be party girls, in other words, live like the world for 6 days and then act like a Christian on Sunday. Wine in access will make anyone silly and in biblical times, wine was the most prominent drink of that day.
d. Teacher of good things to younger women-- they were to teach the younger women how to treat their husbands, how to set up a home, how to raise children, etc. and what to expect in the family structure..
e. To be sober---again this doesn't mean to walk around afraid your face will crack if you smile. It means that they not to be self indulgent in things that may bring shame to their husband, remorse or shame to their family.
Listen wives, if you treat your husband well. tell him you love him, nurture him, he will want to do things for you in return. I have never heard anyone say that they got tired of their spouse saying "I love you". Does this mean that everything will be rosy all the time, absolutely not, but, it is a good practice and basis for a loving marriage relationship. Now, if you husband is not a Christian, this may not apply. Why do you think the Bible says we are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. I have seen Christian girls, marry unsaved boys, and these wives have to live a miserable life because they were deceived in thinking they could change the husband . Change must come from the heart. Senior women are to be a pattern or an example to the younger women in the church. Young wives, you might be surprised what you can learn from an older married woman, who has weathered the storms of life.
f. Love their children: vs-4 Look at the love that Moses' mom had for him. Look at the love that Jesus' mom, had for Him. God places the mother instinct inside a female. Take a little girl, one of the first things they want is a doll. They hold it, feed it, pat it, kiss it. etc. Where do you think that comes from? From God!!!!!!!!!
III. Young Men:
Young men are taught to be sober minded as well, as mentioned in the above. They are to be taught that the price of pleasure of the world is not worth the price you pay. Remember the story of the prodigal son? Good example. Remember the story of Absalom. David's son, who tried to overthrow his dad's kingdom and paid with his life?
IV. Christian Leaders: vs-7-8
In all things--show yourself:
a. have a pattern of good works
b. showing no corruption
c. having gravity--well grounded and mature
d. Sincerity--honesty in your dealings in life
e. Sound speech--people can trust your word. honesty in your dealings
If a church leader is to be affective, his life must be backed up by the actions in his life. He must demonstrate what he professes to be in his manner, his motives, and in his conduct towards others.
He is to be honest, respectful, faithful and obedient.
Playing church will not get it done. Professing to be a Christian and not possessing Christ as savior is fruitless and foolish because sooner or later, your true character will show through all the masks, all the false professions and showmanship you have tried to convey.
If older men will teach the young men. If older women will teach the younger women. If the church leaders are truly what they say they are and, do what they are supposed to do, according to Scripture, Christ will continue to bless collectively and individually as a church.
What causes a chain to break--it's weakest link
What spoils an entire barrel of apples----one bad apple
What caused sin to fall upon all mankind----1 person's sin.
This message is directed basically to the Christian and his conduct. Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. Should we not, as Christians, do our best to bring Honor and Glory to Him and His Church?

1But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
7In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.
9Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
Titus 3
1Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
2To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.
3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;
7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
