For unto you is born, this day, in the city of David. a Saviour, which is Christ, the Lord.
During the Christmas season, our hears and minds should be focused on the earthly birth of Jesus Christ. Instead, mankind has tried to take Christ out of Christmas and call everything "Holiday Greetings" or "Happy Holidays". There would be no Christmas without Christ. We need to remember the biblical story of Christmas.
We need to stop, just for a while to think of the first Christmas. Let out minds imagine that night.
1. The shepherds were watching their sheep. It was dark, calm and still
2, The sheep were bleating softly, some were laying down asleep, content and safe.
3. Everything was quiet, serene, and peaceful.
All of a sudden, the sky was lit up. Angels were proclaiming the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem and angels were singing wonderful songs. The long awaited Messiah has come. The prophecies concerning Him has been fulfilled.
I. A Saviour: They needed one
The nation was in an uproar.
1. they were in a destructive state
2. they were in a financial crisis
3. they were being burdened down with religious ceremonialism and legalistic rituals and traditions.
4. they were spiritually bankrupt..
Does this sound familiar?????????????????????
The word today still needs The Saviour. Mankind thinks he can legislate himself out of anything. He thinks that he is the ruler of his own destiny. He thinks he has the answers. Poor pitiful mankind. He is not smarter than a sheep.
You have to realize you are lost!!!!!! Man has not realized that yet. He is still trying to find his own way!!!!
We still need saved from Sin and Selfishness. This is what has gotten us where we are today.
II. Who is this Child, this Son, this Saviour?
a. He is the anointed one of God to be the Saviour.
b. He is the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Him.
c. He is the son of God in the flesh
d. He is the Godman who became man, that He may redeem man.
e. He is the child spared from Herod's death sentence when an angel led them into Egypt.
f. He is the child who Simeon recognized in the temple when He was 8 days old.
g. He is the child who astonished the Religious Leaders, in the temple, when He was 12 years old.
III. He is Christ the Lord!!!!!!
Jesus' Lordship was declared by His star.
He is the Lord over nature
He is the Lord over the sea and the wind
He is the Lord over disease and death.
He is the Lord over Satan and the grave
He is the Lord over sin .
He lived a life of purity on this earth and overcame Satan's temptation
He is the Lord of Love. Because Christ left Heaven, cane to earth as a human, to give His human life, as The sacrifice for sin, God has appointed Him Lord over everything and everyone.
Because of what Christ did for you, what Christ can do for you and with you, don't you think you should make Him the Lord of your life?
Mans basic sin is to think he can find joy, happiness and meaning in life with these things.
1. wealth
2. Assets
3. prestige
4. Popularity
5. power
6. beauty
Only when Christ is your Saviour, will you find true peace, joy, happiness and meaning in life.
For Christ to be the Lord of your life, you must allow Him to be. What better time to give yourself to Him and allow Him to give you the greatest gift you will ever receive. The GIFT of Eternal Life.
Eph. 2 vs 8 says "by grace as ye saved through faith, it is a GIFT OF GOD."
May you know the CHRIST of CHRISTmas. He is 'CHRIST THE LORD'
Merry Christmas to all of you here. God Bless all of you.

I agree with what you wrote. In today's society Christmas as become commercial glitz. And the central meaning of Christmas and portrayal of the Bethlehem birth scene of Jesus Christ has almost been erased. My children even complain of this. We/ I do know the Christ of Christmas--Christ the Lord. Merry Christmas to you Oldbiker and best wishes for a good new year.
