I am sure, many of you have memories of you father. His laugh, his vocation, his discipline, his mannerisms or his sayings, etc. Some memories may be good and in other cases, as we all now, can be very traumatic.
I realize not all of us had a Godly father or maybe not even a good father.
In the world we live in today, we hear so much about spousal abuse, domestic abuse and sexual abuse in families. These things are indicators of the sin sick society that we have to deal with today.
I was blessed to have a Godly father. He was 60 years old when I was born and I am a twin. In his previous marriage and in his young years, he had some real issues that he had to deal with prior to marrying my mother.
Fathers, sooner or later, we will have to deal with the reality of life. There are 3 things I would like to share with you about being a Godly Father.
Make sure that you give your heart and Life to Jesus:
To be the husband you should be, to your wife and, to be the father you should be to your children, these are essential if you are to be a Godly Father.
One of the biggest mistakes we make as fathers is, that we spend too much time working to provide for our family. What we think our family needs, when in reality, the family needs more of us.
I realize that we must work to provide for our families but, are we working to provide the needs or, the wants?
Many times, dad works long hours, works hard to get promotions, move up the ladder, etc. and mom raises, teaches and disciplines the kids then, we wonder why there isn't a close bond that we feel our sons and daughters should have with us.
We also need to be a Good Example in ALL THINGS:
Ever hear the old saying "a picture is worth a thousand words"? Listen folks, visual education makes a greater impact than lectures and words spoken.
1. Be an example in church attendance and worship
2. Be an example in truthfulness and honesty
3. Be honest and straight in your legal obligations, whatever they may be.
4. Be honest and consistent in you financial dealings.
Let your kids see and hear you pray, let your kids hear you tell your mom "I love
you"! Let your kids see you hug and kiss their mom. These things re-enforce the family unit.
These are visual and character building blocks of their future actions and mannerisms, whether you believe it or not.
If you are an abuser/physical or verbal, there is a very good chance that they will be the same way. Why? Because they see it in their home and, they learn to accept it as proper behaviour. Ever hear the old saying "Monkey see, monkey do"? Show me a home where affection was seldom shown or seen and, I will show you a son or daughter that is basically the same way in their actions.
In most cases, not all but, in most, we learn our adult traits and characteristics by what we see, hear, and endure in our childhood years.
We Need to Discipline but, do it in love:
Ephesians 6:8 says: "knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord. The Scriptures also say that if we do not discipline our children we hate them. We are not to with hold discipline and correction of our children, I don't care what Dr. Spock says. The scriptures say "correct thy son and he shall give thee rest and yea, he shall give delight to thy soul". Be the best father you can be and if you feel you have failed there, be the best Grand-father you can be. Sometimes we get a second chance, dads.
Know Christ as your Saviour, teach your family by example an visual acts and, be honest and loving in your discipline.
I will close with this story:
Years ago, there was a little boy who was stricken with Diphtheria. Back then, it was almost always a fatal disease. His mom and dad had to wear masks when they visited him and he was placed in an isolated area in the hospital. He asked his parents why they wore the masks and, they told him that it was to protect other people from getting sick. They told their son that he was very sick and they didn't want to make other people sick too. The little boy asked his dad, "Daddy, am I going to die"? He had always taught his son to tell the truth so, he choked back the words and said "son, that's what the Doctor tells us". The father then asked his son this question. He said "son, are you afraid"? His little son looked and him and said "Daddy, if God is like you, I won't be afraid"!
Listen Dads, it does make a different how we act and how we conduct ourselves in our home, in our job, and in our lives.
May we all strive to be what God wants us to be in being "A Godly Father".
I hope this message is a blessing to you.

Please PLease men! if you have children, please show them love, your role in their lives is soooo vital and mom's can't take your place. you really are the first picture of God your children will see, and based on your actions what picture of God will they have?

From the above verse, even an atheist has a measure of grace and faith within him. you have something to use that God has given to everyone who has been born: grace and faith. Start praying claiming this verse for your dad.
Be careful, do not become your dad's conscience. When we do that, It hinders the Holy Spirit. Do not always talk about relegion because he may feel you are craming it into him/ Now use your faith and Let Go of your dad and trust and let the Holy Spirit be his conscience. The Holy Spirit know how to reach your dad.
