My eight year old aon was just diagnosed with adhd and although I knew the outcome would be confirmed, this is the only question that keeps going through my mind. Doctors give the diagnosis, tell you to do this and that-none of which are to start helping the child right away but further testing if you will. So what do I do for my baby until all the further testing is done?

There is a book called "Smart but scattered" it is full of really helpful information. It focuses on issues with executive skills which you will find relate to your child in so many ways it will blow your mind. The executive skill are located in the same part of the brain that they believe is effected by ADHD. I hope this is helpful I know it was for me.

I actually also found a really great website on ADHD. It has forms, introduction to instructors, helpful tips on getting supports put in place to assist your child in the classroom. parenting tips as well. I recently stumbled upon the site and it has been a great help for me. My daughter is 10 and she has exhibited a great deal of behavior issues because she could not verbalize what she needed. She was also ashamed of asking for assistance in a fear of being different. This year I met with her teacher at the beginning of the school year and we discussed adding additional supports to her IEP and she is off to a wonderful start. Books can help I guess, I have ADHD and sometimes caffine/coffee can calm us down, that works helping me.
Try fidget toys, I used to do homework on a medicine ball so I could bounce and move while studying.
Mabey do different projects at once so his mind can bounce but still be useful.
But just remember its not his fault to him operating on ADHD us as natural as his eye color.
