My story

Hi :) I’m 15 years old. I love my family very much, but I suffer greatly from anxiety so I don’t reach out to many family members past immediates, and I only communicate comfortably with one friend, my boyfriend who lives across the country. At home, my mother’s depression and frequent mood changes make it very difficult for me. We’re well off on money and i’m so thankful for that that I don’t feel like I even deserve to write about this, but at night my mother screams and cries and it scares me. She gets really high highs and very low lows. She insists to take me on vacation with her, but then screams and cries when the temperature isn’t right for her or she feels she’s walked too much, and blames me for it in public. I don’t know what to do. When my boyfriend (my only true friend who I feel comfortable around) visited, he brought a few hundred dollars and paid for everything we did except for one time when he forgot the money, so my mom gave us her card and told us to splurge. That night, she came in my room screaming at my boyfriend and I for spending $40 untill i broke down crying. I never know what to do.

Don’t feel like you don’t deserve to write about this just because you’re well off on money. Your experience matters just as much. I honestly can’t provide much help, but I can try my best. I’m only 20, so I’ve got a few years on you, but not too many to be old and wise lol. Your mother isn’t being considerate of your feelings at all. Have you tried telling her how she makes you feel? I know, she’ll probably throw a fit and yell at you, but you do need to get the point across. All she’s doing is causing great pain and anxiety. Does she ever apologize after exploding on you? Do you have any other family members that live there that can help back you up to confront her about what’s wrong? Does she have a therapist that you can talk to and tell her what’s she’s been doing to you? You’re so young, and have so much to live for. I was in your position as well in some ways, and I can say for a fact that it’s shitty. You deserve to live your own life and have your home be a place of sanctuary, not a place you fear. I hope somehow this random paragraph of nonsense helped you in some way. I will happily try to help you more if you need it. You’re not alone

It's not easy to deal with at any age. I have watched my mother from around the age of seven when I became aware that she had a mental issue. When I was your age it was horrendous I must admit. I was an only child and I used to spend hours in my room doing anything and everything to take my mind off her. At weekends I could go for walks. From the age of seven to now she has been in hospital on numerous occasions, embarrassed me in town (moreso when I was your age group), had a go at me on my street where I live saying hurtful things, constantly changes her mind on my son's behaviour (he is sixteen ... To him nanny is busy) that is what he calls it, she goes mad if things and plans are not done when she wants them done and totally switches from a living wife to my father to a total gobby petulant toddler with foot stamping and door slamming. I am glad that you told your story on here.
It is no relevance that you have money by the way.
Please always remember even when it is really hard that it is never your fault.
Please also remember to take care of yourself and your inner peace too.
