Children Of Bipolar Parents Community Group
This is a place where those of us who have Parents struggling with Bipolar.I have started this group because my Dad is very sick and I myself have so many questions and need support. So I figured I can't be the only one who is going through this tramatic time.Everyday I wake up hoping to hear the life and soul put back into my Father. It's been three months...
Im new to the community too but happy it's here! I feel like I have a similar situation to you. I'm 43 years old and move back in with my mom so me and my mom could take care of my grandma.
I wish I had an answer for you, but the best I can do I just let you know that you're not alone. I literally just got into an argument with my mom based on the most trivial thing (leaving a pan with good oil on the stove). I shouldn't call it an argument because it was more one-way arguing coming from my mom while I remained calm and eventually left the room to play my guitar.
To make things worse, she decided to go off of her medication because she doesn't like the side effects. When she gets in her "depression" mode and someone says the wrong thing, she is extremely unreasonable, somewhat suicidal, and she feels like the world is against her. She says that a mother is supposed to tell at her child and that I'm supposed to deal with it out of respect. That is very hard to do, because I am far from perfect. The only way I know how to deal with it is walk away since I can't find the right words, tone of voice, etc.. Everything is everyone else's fault and she doesn't know the meaning of "I'm sorry". Even when she's in her manic mood, she's a bit narcissistic.
Truthfully I came to this site and hopes that psychiatrist or someone with pertinent credentials would see this and I could get some free advice since I don't have health insurance. But if that doesn't happen, at least I can find someone I can relate to, vent a little, and feel less alone.
I really don't think there is a 100% solution to the problem. It's just more about coping. I think most of it is genetic, but drugs (baby-boomer) and abusive boyfriend's over the years haven't helped. I know this has affected my quality of life as I'm sure it has for you. I really do hope the best for you and your mom.
