That's the problem for myself at least. I can know with perfect clarity that these realizations are true, but my mind works against me regardless. When I'm tired it will second guess me. When my stress, anxiety, or depression are heightened for any reason my absolute greatest fears have all the tools they need to turn on me.
It really is devastating, the damage one does to themselves when they betray their own ideals and morals. At the end of the day you have to live with yourself and the more idealistic and moral a person you are, the worse your mind will attack you for transgressions against yourself and others. Deeply empathic people also suffer.
I've unfortunately discovered that I'm idealistic, empathic, and morally absolute in my way of thinking. So when I fuck up, and my mind actually gets around to beating on me for it, there is no reprieve.
Regardless of everything I just said, Vocalizing this, making it real on the screen, that is where it needs to begin for me at least. If I say it enough, and think on it enough, I can change my pre programmed emotional responses to better align with how I need them to be in order to function.
I was reading this weekend, how it takes awhile to retrain your mind coming out of an A.
Awhile, meaning like a year at least....cause that is the endorphin your mind became used to. But, yep, we can retrain it.
