I have felt this way. Experienced this. Right down to desiring the high thrilling career. I got married, had kids and lost my identity. I wasn't known as me anymore. Not referred to by name. Only his wife, their mother. I got swallowed up and beat down by my husband's religious beliefs. And I was smothered. I wanted an escape. Just once or twice....
But as far as the affair goes I want to caution you.
I personally think it is difficult to maintain the void of emotions. I could be wrong. However, I wasn't able to maintain that. In fact every time we meet for about a year, I told myself..."you've got this. You are not going to fall in love w this man." Now 4 yrs into it...there isn't much hope. I very much love that man. More than I ever even knew possible. And I don't see any way to stop. And we are same as you guys... Not leaving our spouses for each other. Not a chance. Not going to happen. So we make do with what we have. Our motto "it is what it is" and this is our only option, no other choice. (I know there are those in this forum who won't agree w that and will advice on NC but I'm not looking for that)
I get that same adrenaline high when I use to see my x-om. I'm glad your searching for other ways to get your individualism back. Keep on that track and leave the affair go. It gets ugly when feelings Start to form.
Good luck and keep coming back cause there's some great experienced people here.
