If you are fortunate enough to have married somebody who csn live you through this and let you live the marriage on unconventional terms, you are very lucky. I wish you the best.
It's been about a week now since I came clean. It's been and extremely difficult week with a lot of high and a lot of lows, but right now we both feel like we did when we first met. Having crazy good sex with each other and actinng like 2 teenagers in love. We can't get enough of each other.
We hope this never ends.
We are getting close to the 4 year mark since I got caught and came clean about everything. One reason I think that new found bond has been sustainable for the long term with us is because we worked so hard at rebuilding our relationship. We knew there was no going back to the way things were before. We sought therapy and had sessions with our clergy and we read a lot of A recovery books aloud to each other and when we thought we were done with that we kept reading general marriage enrichment books together. We don't read a lot. It takes us months to finish a book but the point is that we keep reading these books because it keeps us thinking and talking and sometimes trying new things. We made a lot of changes in the way we function as a couple and I had to work hard on myself to make a lot of changes in myself. I honestly think that is the only way to move forward in a M that has seen the devastation of infidelity.
@Gabrielle - That's some really good insight and I appreciate it. I also just love the fact that I never have to lie to my wife again. She can be my real friend and I can share exactly who I truly am with her. We are both also reading a lot and we are both in therapy now.
One of the biggest unexpected things after Dday was how HUGE it felt to have nothing to hide any more. I made a very strong commitment to not having anything to hide ever again which really helped me stay strong and do the right things even when it was very hard to do so. I made myself accountable to my H and our therapist and my priest as well as a best friend who had been through something similar a year before me. And of course, mainly I was accountable to me and God and determined to be authentic and real with myself and God and my accountability team so that when I was tempted, I could say no because I knew I would tell on myself to all those people and there were a couple of incidences in which I did just that. I knew if I didn't tell, I could not move forward because I would once again have something to hide and I was unwilling to go there and give that up.
