We recently lost one of our cats. He was only two, he had a blod clot in his heart..and after only two days we adopted a kitten (2 months old). Our other cat who is two years old was use to the other cat but isn't really found of this kitten. It's actually the kitten...whenever he can, he charges at the older cat...and she isn't very playful, never has been. We try to keep them seperated for now until the kitten gets a little older and bigger. Any advice on a good way to get these two use to each other?. We just don't want the older cat to harm the kitten. I guess once the kitten is bigger, he might just have to get smacked by the older cat and learn she doesnt want to play.lol..Please give any suggestions.

Have you been placing them in the same room for limited periods (closely supervised)? This worked for us in the past. Takes patience

Thanks for the advice-
We were trying to let the kitten get a little bigger. Our other cat (2yrs old) she is much bigger than the kitten (4 mos old). But yes we have tried this a few times, but the kitten charges at the older cat. He wants to play but she doesn't and she usually hisses at him. We just don't want her to hurt him thats why we were wanting him to get bigger , then maybe if she swats at him she won't really hurt him and eventually he'll stop changing at her to play...we hope

When my hubby & I had another kitty come into our home we had two others. Callie was a bit under a yr & next in line was our queen bee Angel who was 4 1/2 yrs older then Callie. Angel can have a real attitude. She values herself a bit of a diva. She was quite insulted with this rough & tumble child in the house. She would not hesitate to verbally tell & politely show Callie how she felt. We just let things play out naturally. We were most of the time keeping an eye on them but we had to let them establish their pecking order in the family. Angel never did learn to like Callie but she did reach a point where she felt "okay kid you're going to live with us but don't expect me to like you. You go your way & I'll go mind". Callie would always biff Angel in the butt every chance she had.

Thank you all for the advice. I know its been awhile since I posted, but the two furballs have been doing well for about two+ months now. They are even eating and sleeping near each other. You are right...just takes time and patience.

I am glad to hear it. Two cats that get along tend to be better adjusted in the long run.
