There are quite a few cats who know what a cat trap is and it doesn't matter what you put in them to try and entice them because they know exactly what the trap will do. It might be a good idea to put food and water in a shed or garage and let all the cats go into it to eat and drink. When you see her go in shut the door at least that way you have her in a confined area. Make sure you wear gloves and protect your arms because if she is hurt and in pain even just picking her up could cause her to bite or scratch you. I was able to get Snickers to come up to me this evening. I started petting her and she walked into the trap to eat and I slowly closed the door. That is how I caught my other cat last week. I sat on the porch and slowly closed that trap. I like doing it that way instead of it making that loud sound as the door slams shut. I will take her to see the vet in the morning.

I took Snickers to the vet. They really couldn't see anything wrong with her leg, it wasn't broke or anything like that. She did have a pretty high fever though so they think maybe she was bit by something and it might be infected. They gave her an antibiotic shot that is good for 14 days....as she is a feral cat and we couldn't give it to her daily. The also gave me 4 days of pain medication to put in her food. I kept her in a dog crate for 5 days, she was so unhappy and not doing well mentally so I called the vet. They said to go ahead and let her go if I thought the leg was doing better. The bad thing is I really couldn't tell as she didn't have much room to walk around. I let her go Friday evening. She is limping a little bit but not like before. She seems to be able to put more pressure on the leg then she did. She won't have anything to do with me and I used to be able to pet her. I just hope I did the right thing and didn't release her to early. I miss scratching her head and listening to her purr. Thanks for asking how she is doing......sorry this was so long.

I'm glad you gave such a complete report! As she heals, she will probably come back to you. I had an experience with a feral cat and he didn't talk to me for about 2 weeks, then he forgave me and let me pet him again. It sounds to me that you did all the right things! Your feral kitties are so fortunate to have you!

I had to trap another feral kitty because it looked like she got burnt from the fireworks. I took her to the vet and I was right it was a burn. They shaved around the area and cleaned it really good and also gave her the antibiotic injection that last 14 days. I hope it heals ok since I had to let her go right away. She is not one of the cats that lets me touch her and she was really freaked out from being trapped. I now have taken 3 feral kitties to see a vet in the last couple of weeks. I hope now they all do good for a while as I'm broke. I am a caregiver to 5 feral kitties plus I have a dog and cat of my own. Snickers is doing well and her limp is almost completely gone. She also lets me pet her again.

I'm glad to hear that Snickers is doing well! I understand about being broke from taking care of the darlings! I have 7 cats (4 of them dumped in the area). When injuries or illness hits, it really hits the pocket book also! I started putting $20 aside on the months when there aren't any vet visits to try to help for when there are visits.

I also think that even though the poor babies get very scared when taken to the vet, that once they get over that trauma, they know we are only trying to help them.

I took care of some feral cats several years ago and there was 1 that I couldn't catch to have spayed. Finally got her with sardines! She didn't like canned cat food the vet said!! And she was the only little girl that was not pregnant out of the 4 that I took to the vet.
She was a picky little thing!

So glad to know that I am not the only one who takes in strays and spends time and money on them.
