Caring Parents of Estranged Adult Children Community Group
We have given our lives to our children and they reject us. We still love them but this love is now frozen in time. How do we deal with the resulting chaos of our lives? We talk and we listen to one another as we cope with this loss and assault on our sensibilities. Respect in our thinking and language are a must.
I know, in the beginning, whatever it is my ES is upset with me for, he probably justified his behavior and lack of respect. And as years went by, and our world changed so much regarding "respect", that instead of remembering and falling back on what he was taught, it was easy to continue to justify his actions and continue with disrespect because so many in the world accept and condone it. I see it in our schools everyday I am there. And until we became estranged, I saw a great deal of disrespect coming from his children toward him and ES accepting it. I was in disbelief.
More than once, I have told ES that he is welcome here anytime, as long as he comes with a respectful attitude. DH and I stand firm on that, but will it ever happen? My ES has so much anger and bitterness and distorted thoughts that I believe it will truly take a miracle for him to change. But......I believe God is still in the business of miracles. But, dh and I are going forward with our lives until and if that should happen.
