I was somewhat thrust into the whole caregiver situation, and I have absolutely no medical background. I am a correctional officer...law enforcement is my strength. I was chosen by my family to take care of my mother, and I believe my no nonsense attitude was partly why. She is 53 and developed cirrhosis following over a decade of prescription painkiller abuse. She is in deep denial about her condition, and she has a hard time dealing with the fact that I am the one in control. It is more difficult to deal with her illness, because we are still facing the drug addiction. So, on top of her having all of the awful symptoms of cirrhosis, I am also dealing with withdrawals. I am just looking for someone, anyone, who can give me some insight into what I need to do and what I need to expect. This whole experience is a nightmare! Most of her friends and family have stopped coming around, and several have encouraged me to give up on her, but no matter how hard she makes this, she is my mom and I will not leave her!
I helped care for my dad until he passed thwn I caee for my mom then my Grandmorher now my husband.
which he too is a ah we have been married for going on 20 years. Im not planning on liveing but it is not out of the picture eirher.
Due to his ah he has had seizures fell down step has had to have back surgery and is now facing back surgery
some due to the fall but for other reasons caused from his drinking and smoking.
He has lost 10lbs down to 125lbs which he is small anyway but not looking real good.
We qent to the surgion today and he said there are lots of risk to concider. But he still wants to go thru with it.
I understand he is in lots of pain and sometimes it is totaly unbearable for him. It hurts him so bad I see him cry due to the pain meds are not working for him.
I need all the prayers we can get to help him make it thru this. They will be setting it up in late oct or early nov.
