I don't know why, but I just found this group and think it's a wonderful idea. Caring for a spouse is certainly different than caring for a child or parent. I would love to see this discussion group more active!
Hi it's me. I agree this would be a great group IF we could find more people to share with. SOOOO here goes--HOLLER---HOLLER !!! Come and join us please, Molly and I are a couple of good eggs. Honest ! Whya
I think that when a marriage fails, people don't think to come here anymore. I don't want to think that because that is the way my marriage to a TBI spouse ended, I have influenced anyone else to go that route. It's a very personal decision. Since I am no longer a caregiver, have not been on in a long time. But I still deal with him since we co-parent our son. I am the caregiver for my son, not my ex. That boundary has been drawn firmly with a permanent black marker.
I have been a caretaker to my spouse now for 10+ years. I was a caregiver for my grandparents during their terminal illnesses and now am one with my husband. Yes, I am a gay male with a husband if you weren't aware. I can tell you something important, a support system for YOU is just as important as a support group for your spouse, child, parent etc. As a caregiver, I tend to neglect myself in favor of helping him. It is a common mistake made by caretakers so this forum is a definitely much needed venue.
My husband has Parkinson's. He is in the early stages, but is unable to use his left hand and he is left handed. This puts a strain on me, to pick up where he can no longer do for himself. He is in a lot of pain also. It is hard to be a caregiver to a spouse as watching someone you love so much, change in physical, and mental state is very hard. I have been told several times by others that as caregivers we need to take care of ourselves in order to be strong and healthy enough to take care of our spouses. I just came across this site and I think it is a good site. I will come here often.
