 Early Life of Dr Suresh Advani

 You might be surprised to learn that his life was full of struggles as he was born on 1st August 1947 at Karachi and within no time his family was forced to migrate to India because of the partition of the country. 

Life keeps it’s testing process as he was struck by polio at the age of 8 and as there were not many facilities for the diseases like polio back in 1955, he was left paralyzed from the waist down. This however couldn't stop him from becoming Oncologist Suresh Advani.

Education

 He completed his schooling from a Sindhi medium school at Ghatkopar, Mumbai and become a graduate of the Somaiya College.

He decided to get an expert degree from Grand Medical College but this was not an easy process at an introductory stage he was denied for confirmation due to his physically challenged status.

 After writing many letters to the college head and the ministers, the dean of the college relented and gave admission to Dr. Advani.It was his determination which made him to reach here for where he wished and constantly kept working for it.

Dr Advani then went on to choose a specialisation namely Oncology which did not have any facilities in India. So he travelled to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle where he got a chance to work with Dr E Donall Thomas who is a 1990’s Noble Prize winner.  

Career

Dr Suresh Advani started his career in India by becoming the first doctor to have successfully completed a bone marrow transplant.

He has over 35 years of rich experience in his field. He worked at Tata Memorial Hospital for many years as a medical oncologist.

He is the Director of Cancer Department, Jaslok Hospital and Chairman of Cancer Department, Raheja Hospital. 

He was a key member of a clinical research team which was setup to help children suffering from lymphoblastic leukaemia. This team was responsible for the increase in the success rate of 20% to 70%.

Treatment
