Worse then imagined!

Someone gave me a username from someone who sent her a friend request that was typical of the older account that had been hijacked.


I had no clue where it was so I could take a look to make sure, so I typed it into search but I typed it wrong and what came up instead, blew me away!


It was page after page after page of advertising spam all listed under different usernames.  There is no way I could have reported all of them. I have a life outside of DS!


Something similar happened a few weeks ago and a name came up  of someone who had 45,000 journal entries!  This person had no replies to any entries.  Imagine that!  Where does someone find the time to write that many journals?


From what I have seen, I think the best thing to do is to start over again from scratch!

It's probably a bot - a bit of code that does it. A bit like a virus. They are journal spammers. Jesse told us at the time of the DS reboot half or more of the DS accounts were spam accounts.

They were mainly cleared out after the reboot which required people to log back in (and the bots not being people didn't).

And then they came back in.

That explains it. It's like fighting a losing battle. Maybe we should get DS to clarify what kinds of spam they want us to report.

It seems like a waste of time for something seemingly overwhelming. What do others think?

previously I only reported the more intrusive spam - usually only where the spammer posts on my board. I gave up reporting journal spammers years ago.

I then started reporting the latest wave because they pester members with friend requests. I've now stopped awaiting the announcement - I don't particularly want to see legit accounts closed just because DS allowed them to be hijacked.

Stopping by to say hello and hope you are doing well. My plan is to spend time here, but I have said that before and sadly didn't follow through. I'm in a better place mentality and think about my friends here. Losing Art brought back all the emotions of my husband passing. It took a lot of work dealing with everything and I think I have accomplished a great deal. Wishing you well with intention of being active again.

    So mad at Xfinity!  They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today!  Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...
