I was diagnosed with bipolar when I was around 24. Lately I've read a lot about people either being misdiagnosed with bipolar and have BPD or having BPD as well. I told my wife that I wanted to get tested for BPD and she scoffed at me. Why is it funny to wonder if you have this? I don't understand.
I was diagnosed depression for about six years. Then later with bipolar II and PTSD. After about 2 years with that diagnosis I was hospitalized and borderline was brought up but eventually ruled out. Six months later I was hospitalized again and treated with ECT because docs felt that I actually do have borderline more than all else and medication wasn’t enough to stabilize me because I had been misdiagnosed and treated for so long.
All that being said if you believe you have BPD you probably do. Get treated and disregard the nay sayers including your wife. Best of luck.
